A woman has claimed in a now-viral first date story that she once found her Tinder date sitting naked in his car.
Ashleigh (@hai_im_ashleigh_) shared the wild story to TikTok, where it has racked up more than five million views and over 400,000 likes.
The text overlay of Ashleigh's video reads: "When your tinder date left for 20 minutes while waiting for a table, claiming he left his wallet in the car, and I thought I was being stood up, but actually he was out in his car completely naked."
In the video, Ashleigh is standing alone in a room, staring at the camera. The camera slowly zooms in on Ashleigh's face as a slightly altered version of Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" plays in the background, in which the chorus ends with "what the f***" instead of "what a wonderful world."
Ashleigh isn't the first person to experience a terrible first date with a Tinder match.
Last month, TikToker Elyse Meyers shared that she once went on a first date with a Tinder match who "forgot" his wallet, forcing Meyers to pay for the 100 hard-shell tacos he ordered in the Taco Bell drive-thru.
After the two ate their dinner in uncomfortable silence, Myers told her date: "Thank you for this experience, you will never hear from me again."
But despite countless others who have also had horrible experiences through the app, The Knot reported that Tinder is "the top dating site for marriage."
"According to The Knot 2020 Jewelry and Engagement Study, Tinder was responsible for pairing 26% of newlyweds who met online, solidifying its spot as the most popular dating app," the wedding planning website said.
The site added that the app had more than 57 million users worldwide in 2020.
While the app appears to be the perfect place to meet Mr. or Mrs. Right, stories like Ashleigh's prove that it's still important to be safe when meeting up with a match for the first time.
On its website, RAINN recommended that people meet their date in a public place, and share that location with a friend. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to drive separately and share their date's name and dating profile with friends or family. This way, if something goes wrong, someone can help.
Thankfully, Ashleigh was safe, and commenters were both shocked and amused by her story.
"Sorry friend but this could be the most interesting dating story yet," said Rachel AZ.
"I laughed immediately [because] I was just so ... shocked," added Shanwow.
Others expressed that they would have rather been stood up.
In response to Rachel AZ's comment, Ashleigh posted a follow-up video, in which she provided further details on the date.
In the video, Ashleigh explains that the date occurred in 2016. She and her date "Paul"—who she described as a "nice guy"—matched two months prior to their first date. Apparently scheduling conflicts prevented them from meeting sooner.
Paul also lived an hour away, which made scheduling a date that much more difficult; however, when Paul saw that Ashleigh was in town one weekend, he reached out and asked her to dinner. When she mentioned she was spending the day with a friend and suggested a rain check, he insisted they meet up and encouraged Ashleigh to bring her friend.
So, Ashleigh and her friend met Paul later that night at a steak restaurant. But, that's when things went downhill.
After they all arrived, Paul left because he "forgot" his wallet in his car. Ashleigh and her friend waited 15-20 minutes for Paul to return, but he never did. So, they left, she said in the video.
Once they were outside, they noticed that Paul's car was still in the parking lot. When they approached the vehicle, they found Paul sitting in his car, "but a** naked." He then allegedly asked Ashleigh if she and her friend would want to have a "threesome."
In the video's comments section, Ashleigh added that she blocked him after he phoned later that night to yell at her.
"He misunderstood the assignment," said commenter Missy Rumble.
"At least buy the dinner first before asking," added Rachel Mae.
