A woman pleaded guilty to murder and several other charges in Onondaga County Court after she was accused of suffocating a 93-year-old woman in a Syracuse, New York, apartment.

Syracuse.com reported that Victoria Afet followed Connie Tuori into her apartment on February 26, 2021, and stuffed several items into her mouth and down her throat, killing her. ABC-affiliate station WSYR reported that Afet stayed in Tuori's apartment and hid the body in a bedroom.

The body was found three weeks later when police were called to check on Tuori.

In addition to the murder charge, Afet also pleaded guilty to robbery and assault on two separate cases that were open prior to Tuori's murder.

Susan Carey, Afet's attorney who worked on the murder case, told Newsweek she was co-counsel with Elise Voutsinas, who was Afet's attorney on her other open cases, which included her charges of assault and robbery.

Though Afet entered her guilty plea on January 26, Spectrum News reported she told Judge Matthew Doran that she wanted to plead guilty in May 2021 after her attorneys entered a plea of not guilty on all charges.

"Judge, my lawyers aren't doing what I want," Afet said. "I want to plead guilty. I want to hear my offers."

According to Spectrum News, Afet's defense team said it was too early to enter a guilty plea before all of the evidence was submitted.

Her guilty plea on the charges, per Syracuse.com, meant she may face just shy of 30 years to life in prison.

Carey told Newsweek that her guilty plea was her way of accepting responsibility for the case.

"The evidence, discovery and the investigations led to this plea," Carey said.

Afet is expected to be sentenced in late April, according to WSYR.

Newsweek reached out to Onondaga County Court for comment.

Elsewhere in the United States, another woman reportedly told police she killed her mother, as reported by Newsweek.

Cassandra DuSold, a Minnesota woman, allegedly killed her mother and said, according to court documents, she put her in a chokehold and squeezed her "like a python."

Dorothy DuSold was pronounced dead at M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital and Cassandra DuSold was arrested. Court documents stated that she first told police she heard a thud in the bedroom, but later said the alleged attack took place when her mother scratched one of her arms.

She said her "brain went into neutralize" and she put her mother into a chokehold. DuSold called the police when she saw that her mother was bleeding.

"It's not right what transpired," Cassandra DuSold was quoted as saying in the complaint. "It's not right at all."
