A video of a groom presenting his new wife with a wedding gift of a puppy at their reception has gone viral on TikTok.

In the video, which has been viewed over 270,000 times, user Simon Christopher Wi, @sicw77, can be seen presenting "a little gift to my beautiful wife on our special day." His wife looks on confused, as a member of the wedding party repeats, "He's got her a puppy," eventually screaming the phrase as a Irish red setter is brought in to the room and given to his wife.

The majority of people in the comments had something to say about the vocal woman behind the camera. User Cambo commented, "What am I so infuriated at that woman ruining the surprise?!" and user Hurlekirsty commented, "That lady shouting "he got her a puppy" totally ruined it, the bride didn't even see the puppy first." Another user said, "that women was so so annoying and how to spoil the reveal."

Another user, Sophie, commented on the puppy, "Red setters are the sweetest ever." Giving this dog breed as a gift is bucking a trend, as the American Kennel Club (AKC) revealed earlier this year that the top five popular dog breeds of 2021 were; Labrador retriever, French bulldog, golden retriever, German shepherd and poodle.

Irish red setters ranked 154 on the list. The AKC describes the breed as "active, sweet-natured, and outgoing," calling it "a type of dog bred to locate gamebirds by using their keen sense of smell. The setter shows a hunter he's found birds by 'setting' down on his belly. Before the invention of firearms, setters worked in tandem with trained falcons and hunters using nets. Today, setters are gundogs, that is, they work with a hunter toting a rifle."

One famous red setter from history is President Richard Nixon's Irish setter, King Timahoe, who was named after a small town in Ireland that was allegedly home to his ancestors.

One user commented "I'd be leaving my wedding to spend time with my new puppy, guests can help themselves," while user Emily_rose_kemp wrote, "I'd be fuming, honeymoon ruined."

User ghjedn wrote, "Upsets the plans for the rest of the day," while Carrington agreed, "What a stupid wedding gift!", to which the groom replied, "for you maybe. but for an animal lover and someone who's been saying for 2 years that she wants another. NO."
