A man has died after being shot by his wife while he was entering the back door of their home in California.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said they received a call from a woman saying she had accidentally shot her husband in the 2500 block of Camino de las Palmas at around 5:55 p.m. on Monday, July 12, reported NBC.
The body of the man, who has not been identified, was later found at the back of the home by deputies responding to the scene.
Lt. Tom Seiver, of the San Diego County Sheriff's homicide unit, told NBC that there is no further risk to the public and that deputies are confident there are no outstanding suspects in connection to the shooting.
One person was detained, but not arrested, later that night. The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation
"According to reports, he was trying to get in the back door," Lt. Mike Arens told The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has been contacted for an update.
The incident occurred around the same time that deputies shot an armed man who was reportedly suicidal just a few streets away.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said they received a call on Monday at around 6:15 p.m. from a woman reporting that her son may have cut himself at an address in the 2100 block of Camino de Las Palmas.
When deputies arrived at the scene, a second woman said that man, identified as 34-year-old Shane Felix, was suicidal but had not cut himself, San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Ted Greenawald told CBS 8.
Just before 6:30 p.m., three deputies went to speak to Felix inside the home.
When they approached, Felix allegedly pulled a handgun out from inside his jacket, prompting the three deputies to open fire, Lt. Michael Blevins said.
Felix was taken to a hospital for treatment for his multiple gunshot injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening.
Felix is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm following his release from the hospital.
Blevins said the names of the deputies involved in the shooting will be made public within the next few days.
Detectives with the sheriff's homicide unit are investigating the incident, as is protocol with all deputy-involved shootings.
