A marriage joke about Zendaya and her boyfriend Tom Holland has gone viral.

The couple first met back in 2016 while working on Spider-Man: Homecoming. Although the pair were rumored to be dating for years, there wasn't confirmation about them getting together until July 2021, when they were spotted kissing in the actor's car in Los Angeles.

In November 2016, the pair appeared on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter. At the time, the England-born star called Zendaya his "mate," a British term that means "friend" or "buddy"—according to Merriam-Webster.

"Over the moon with my first cover. So grateful that I got to share it with the one and only @zendaya," he wrote on social media at the time. "Thanks mate for helping me out."

In 2017, Zendaya shut down relationship speculation in Variety's Power of Young Hollywood issue.

"We are friends," Zendaya told the outlet. "He's a great dude. He's literally one of my best friends."

After dodging romance rumors for years, though, Holland said in an interview with GQ in November 2021 that he didn't intend to reveal their relationship with their car PDA.

"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," he said. "We sort of felt robbed of our privacy."

Holland added that he wouldn't discuss their relationship further.

"It's not a conversation that I can have without her. You know, I respect her too much to say... This isn't my story. It's our story. And we'll talk about what it is when we're ready to talk about it together."

On November 28, a tweet posted by @godhelpthegrl started circulating on the social media platform.

"When Zendaya and Tom Holland get married he's gonna take her last name and become just Tom," the post read.

At the time of publication, the tweet racked up nearly 700,000 likes.

Of course, Zendaya does have a last name. While the Euphoria star simply goes by Zendaya in her professional life, her full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman.

That being said, one Twitter user admitted, "I have never seen Zendaya's last name ever being used." The comment quickly garnered over 5,000 likes.

A separate remark, meanwhile, has more than 14,000 likes. "She used to b [sic] credited as Zendaya Coleman in 'Shake It Up' but I think she/her [management] realized she IS the only & one Zendaya," the user said, referring to the actress' Disney Channel days.

"The other way around she's gonna end up Zendaya Holland, name gonna sound like two countries that have been in constant war since the 13th Century," a third user joked, while a fourth user simply couldn't get enough of their love story.

"Normally I don't care about celebrities' romances but I am invested in these two. Cute as a button."
