One key moment in Annie January's story was her decision to finally leave Vought behind and drop the Starlight moniker.

In the character's final scene, she takes her superhero cape and throws it down the trash chute at The Boys' base, where she declares that she is joining their team to take down Homelander and Vought.

Moriarty reflected on this moment with Newsweek, saying that she felt it was a "liberating" moment for Annie to no longer be Starlight.

"I loved throwing that cape down a trash chute symbolically," Moriarty said. "I gave up my cape, I threw it down the trash chute. I think it's great, I think that she's realized that wearing a mask is not the way that she's gonna go about seeking justice, fighting crime, doing all the things that she wants to do.

"I think that she's able to release that pressure and take off the mask, quit Vought, sort of join The Boys and I think that where she's finding most purpose is actually by living very transparently and very honestly.

"So, that's why she starts to live-broadcast from her Instagram. And I think that instead of working for Vought she realizes that working external to Vought and really exposing them and capitalizing on her following is how she's going to do good.

"I love that because I feel like the release of that façade and that mask is going to be very defining for her and liberating for her."

Starr, who was sat in the interview with Moriarty, joked that it was "such an absurd concept" for Starlight to give up her cape.

'The Boys' Star Antony Starr on Ryan Choosing Homelander and What it Means for Season 4

Homelander has had a number of surprising reveals himself this season, namely the fact that Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) is his real father.

Despite his hopes for a happy family reunion, this wasn't meant to be because Soldier Boy not only shunned him but he expressed how much of a disappointment he was, leading father and son to be at odds.

But even though his father wanted nothing to do with him, Homelander still has a chance at a happy family because his son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) has decided to join his side.

The finale ends with Homelander introducing Ryan to the world and with the chilling moment when the supe kills a bystander for throwing a can at his son.

Initially, Homelander felt the public murder would lead to the crowd hating him, but in fact they revered him for it. Ryan smiled when he saw their reaction, so it seems the apple might not have fallen far from the tree after all.

When asked how he feels having Ryan around might help Homelander, Starr told Newsweek: "I'm not sure how that will work out for the kid, but Homelander has always been driven towards the need for family and connection and, you know, little Ryan genetically sits squarely in the center of that.

"Which, I mean, it's a good and a bad thing because Ryan needs the same thing, especially because his mom died at the end of the last season. So, he needs someone that he can trust and someone who will take care of him, and it's not necessarily the most obvious person in the show that might be able to fulfil that.

"So, Homie's actually got a genuine affection and love for the kid whether it's because it's a piece of himself, or it could be his ego talking again.

"But, you know... whenever there's a safe space in this show it gets corrupted, so inevitably the father son dynamic will be fraught."

Fans will have to wait and see how Homelander's influence will impact Ryan in the show's fourth season.

The Boys Season 1 to 3 are available to watch on Prime Video now.
