Britney Spears has expressed her frustration over her wedding venue, revealing that she was not permitted to have her ceremony in the church of her choice.
The pop star married her long-term boyfriend Sam Asghari in June after five years of being together at her former home in Thousand Oaks, California.
The star-studded ceremony took place at her home where a chapel was created especially for the highly anticipated nuptials.
On Wednesday, Spears took to Instagram and shared a photo of her dream venue—an ornately decorated church, but she revealed there was one big reason that prevented her from tying the knot there—that she is not Catholic.
"This is where I originally wanted to get married during COVID [woman with veil emoji] !!!!" the 40-year-old said in her caption. "I wanted to go every Sunday ... it's beautiful and they said it was temporarily shut down due to COVID !!!!"
She continued: "Then 2 years later when I wanted to get married there they said I had to be Catholic and go through TEST !!!!"
Spears shared her frustration at this and asked her followers: "Isn't church supposed to be open to all [thinking face emoji, woman shrugging emoji, church emoji] ????"
The "Toxic" hitmaker famously grew up Baptist but told fans in a deleted post in August 2021 that she was a Catholic now.
"As for the next video," she wrote in the now-deleted post, per Cheat Sheet. "I just got back from mass ... I'm Catholic now ... let us pray."

Earlier this week, Spears revealed that the string of A-listers—including Madonna and Selena Gomez—who attended her June wedding actually surprised her on the day.
"This is the dance floor at my fairytale wedding before we danced ... this is our special car ... thank you @drewbarrymore, @selenagomez, @madonna, and @parishilton for surprising me !!!"
Spears also gave a shoutout to Only Murders in the Building star Gomez, and said: "Thank you to Selena for telling me all she wants is for me to be happy three times !!! It was a very, very, very special wedding !!!"
Spears and Asghari announced their engagement in September 2021, just two months before the pop star's conservatorship was terminated.
The star has since been enjoying her newfound freedom and documenting her new experiences widely on social media and also shared her first time in a bar with fans.
"This is my first time at a bar. First time," Spears said in a recent video wearing a large pair of sunglasses. "I feel so fancy and I feel so sophisticated."
