A lawyer for Britney Spears has said that her father's "day of reckoning" has begun as Jamie Spears has been ordered to appear in court for questioning over surveillance allegations during his daughter's conservatorship.
Britney Spears was placed under her controversial conservatorship in 2008 and was only released from the arrangement in November 2021.
The pop star accused her father of "conservatorship abuse" in court testimony in summer 2021 as she battled to be released from the conservatorship. The 40-year-old singer has also spoken out against him, and other family members, on social media.
Earlier this year, Britney Spears' legal team claimed that Jamie Spears had his daughter's bedroom wiretapped, according to a declaration filed in court.

Now he has been ordered to court to face questions over these allegations and will be deposed to testify within the next 30 days.
Jamie Spears has also been told he must produce all documents requested by his daughter's lawyers.
Britney Spears' lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said that "today was a very good day in court for Britney Spears, and it was a very good day for justice."
Appearing outside of the Los Angeles court after the hearing on Wednesday, Rosengart told reporters: "Mr. Spears, as the court determined, has now effectively been hiding from his deposition for no less than nine months.
"The day of reckoning for Mr. Spears has come… we have seen nothing but obstruction and stone-walling from him."
"His daughter is finally free. His daughter is married. His daughter is happy. His daughter wants to move on.
"Mr. Spears, if he loves his daughter as he professes he does, should leave her alone."
Jamie Spears' lawyers have maintained that as conservator, he always acted in his daughter's best interests.
In a court filing earlier in July, Jamie Spears said: "I never conducted or authorized any surveillance of Britney's bedroom at any time, including during the conservatorship."
Rosengart previously stated that former FBI agent Sherine Ebadi concluded that a "secret recording device" was placed in the singer's bedroom by an employee of Black Box Security.
Alex Vlasov, the employee in question, first went public with his claim in the 2021 documentary Controlling Britney Spears, saying that during the nine years he worked for the "Toxic" singer her conservators bugged her phone and home.
When the allegations were first made on the release of Controlling Britney Spears in September 2021, Jamie Spears' lawyer said in a statement shared with The New York Times that he had acted with his daughter's consent.
"All of his actions were well within the parameters of the authority conferred upon him by the court," read the statement. "His actions were done with the knowledge and consent of Britney, her court-appointed attorney, and/or the court. Jamie's record as conservator—and the court's approval of his actions—speak for themselves."
Britney Spears married 28-year-old fitness trainer and model Sam Asghari at their home in Los Angeles in June.
