Dallas Cowboys Win Inspires Fired-Up, Church-Like Sermon From Michael Irvin

Michael Irvin's time playing with the Dallas Cowboys came to an end in 1999, but the former wide receiver just might be the team's biggest cheerleader.

On Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys delivered a 23-16 victory against the New York Giants. Quarterback Dak Prescott was recently sidelined by a hand injury, but backup Cooper Rush helped the team secure its win.

Irvin celebrated on Monday night in what looked like his home's personal gym. In a video posted to Twitter, the sports commentator wears a bright orange shirt that seems to be wet with sweat.

"I don't know how it happened, but we have done it again! We have stolen another one!" Irvin said in the now-viral clip.

He also floated a new slogan for the team: "As a backup: In Rush we trust!"

By Tuesday afternoon, the video had received some 624,300 views, and many Twitter users joked about Irvin's exuberance.

"Michael Irvin would've cut the meanest promos in wrestling history," retired NFL player Chris Long wrote in a tweet.

Other social media users noted Irvin's sweat-soaked shirt.

"Michael Irvin hopped out the sauna to record this," Barstool Sports tweeted.

Still, that wasn't the only video that got fans all hopped up on Irvin.

On Tuesday morning, Irvin and sports television personality Stephen A. Smith talked about America's Team on ESPN's First Take. At one point, Smith commented on the fact that Irvin was "sweating like he's on the football field."

In the second viral video, Irvin excitedly licks each of his fingers and says "it's finger lickin' good!" while the other commentators look on in astonishment. His exultation and mention of the Bible have also prompted some social media users to compare him to a preacher.

Twitter user @sydnee_walker5 posted the viral clip, along with a crying emoji, writing: "Michael Irvin was on one."

"This is a perfect minute of sports television. Absolutely no notes," Peter Bukowski, host of the Locked On Packers podcast, then wrote in a quote tweet.

"Michael Irvin taking them to church on First Take this morning," tweeted Joey Hayden, digital sports producer with The Dallas Morning News.

"Michael Irvin is television Gold, somebody pass the collection plate," former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho tweeted. "#Cowboys fans y'all are gonna wana hear this sermon."

And Robyn Hearn, sports director for a North Texas news channel, tweeted out a suggestion for a potential video edit: "Someone put the church organ to this."

Newsweek reached out to Irvin for comment.
