As Hurricane Ian continues to threaten Florida, there are questions regarding if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be able to play their upcoming home game as scheduled.

On Monday, the Buccaneers announced that the team would be traveling from Tampa to Miami to practice at the Miami Dolphins' facility in order to avoid Hurricane Ian. The Dolphins are scheduled to travel to Cincinnati to play the Bengals on Thursday night.

"With Hurricane Ian potentially hitting the Bay area this week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made contingency plans for this week's preparations for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs," the Buccaneers said in a statement.

The decision to move to Miami's practice facility comes as Hurricane Ian continues to threaten parts of Florida, specifically the Tampa area.

"There is a danger of life-threatening storm surge along much of the Florida west coast where a storm surge warning has been issued," the National Hurricane Center said. "Hurricane-force winds are expected in the hurricane warning area in west-central Florida beginning Wednesday morning with tropical storm conditions expected by late today."

According to the National Hurricane Center, heavy rainfall is expected to hit parts of Florida in the coming days and the southeast U.S. by Friday and Saturday, "likely causing flash, urban, and small stream flooding."

In the statement announcing the plan to travel to Miami to practice, the Buccaneers said that "as of Monday afternoon, there have been no changes to the plans for Tampa Bay's game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymonds James Stadium on Sunday night, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET."

"The NFL, in consultation with team and local officials, will continue to monitor the situation," the team added.

Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles was asked about the league moving the game on Sunday to another city, and he responded by saying that the game could still be moved or rescheduled.

"Possibly, if it gets to that," the Tampa Bay Times reported. "Right now, we're still monitoring things but we're working things out with the league and we should have a decision hopefully later on today about what we're going to do."

Buccaneers star quarterback Tom Brady also spoke about Hurricane Ian while his podcast, Lets Go!

"We've got some things coming up this week, some adversity to deal with in terms of the weather here in Tampa so just kind of a lot of prep on this Monday for our plans for the week and trying to get some prep for a tough opponent, the Chiefs, trying to get over a loss," Brady said.

Newsweek has reached out to the NFL for further comment.
