Laughter as Dog Who Doesn't Like Water Keeps Shutting Off Tap

Many dogs feel comfortable in and around water, but as one tiny pooch demonstrated by repeatedly turning off the tap, that is not always the case with every breed.

The small dog's apparent fear of water was seen in a viral TikTok video uploaded to the platform by user nastjase on December 4.

In the clip, which can be seen here, a man can be seen holding the small pooch in his hand as he tries to wash his hands.

But just as the water starts to run, the dog keeps shutting off the tap and does so repeatedly each time it's turned on.

The TikTok user clarified in response to a question about whether she had an issue with the temperature that her dog does not enjoy the water.

"No, it's just the fact that it's water. She basically doesn't like water," she added. "[It] has nothing to do with [the] temperature."

Newsweek has contacted nastjase for comment via TikTok.

Getting Dogs to Enjoy Water

According to the pet wellness website WagWalking.com, many dogs love water and enjoy swimming.

"One is that their bodies are built to swim and two is that dogs are introduced to water fun at a young age," it said.

But some breeds, such as basset hounds, aren't built for swimming and prefer to stay on dry land. WagWalking.com did offer some advice to people who want to introduce their dogs to water, which includes:

  • Introducing your dog to water and swimming at a young age.
  • Do not push your dog to learn fast or invoke a fear of water in your dog.
  • Swim safely and have fun if the dog is in the water.
  • Bring a toy with you into the water as it might be easier to get your dog in.
  • Be patient as it might take several training days to help your dog get over their fear.
  • Consider water therapy or hydrotherapy if you are struggling to get your dog to enjoy time in the water.

Online Reaction to Post

Since being uploaded to TikTok, the video has attracted an estimated 2.8 million views and was liked more than 122,600 times.

The overwhelming majority of people who commented on the video saw the humor, or compared the situation with their own struggles of getting their dogs clean.

TikTok user Aria said: "My Chihuahua does this every time."

While saraortegavalle69 added: "If there's no water, you won't get me wet."

NoraCiem posted: "It's the same lifelong struggle to keep your paws clean after a walk."

Danisleidyvazquez saw the situation from the dog's point of view, adding: "If I've already bathed, please, don't insist."
