Video of 'Unathletic' Dog on Vacation With Hiking Family Branded Relatable

A video of a dog who seems to be struggling with outdoor activities has gone viral online, with more than 830,000 likes at the time of writing.

The video posted by @lily_boris_darcy, a TikTok account dedicated to the user's three pups, showcases Darcy attempting to hike and swim. Over 3 million people have watched the video, and many can relate to the "unathletic" dog.

The montage of videos, accompanied by an onscreen caption that reads "when you're the only unathletic member of a hiking obsessed family," ends with Darcy resting his eyes in the car home, you can view the video here.

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), Darcy's behavior is a little out of the ordinary for a golden retriever.

The website state goldens "need plenty of daily exercise" and many happily get their exercise on hunting trips or at field trials, as well as by participating in canine sports such as agility, obedience, and tracking.

This seems to be the case for Lily and Boris, the TikTok user's other two dogs, but Darcy appears to be the black sheep of a "hiking obsessed family."

However, TikTokers love him for it, with one user writing: "most relatable TikTok on the app," in a comment with over 9,400 likes.

Although Darcy isn't as athletic as his furry family, his best efforts haven't gone unnoticed as another TikTok commented to say: "A for effort."

Even the global outdoor brand Kathmandu has got involved and commented on the video to say, "it's the effort that counts."

Whilst most comments are laughing and sympathizing with the dog, one user pointed out Darcy should be wearing a harness.

They said: "My dog was like this fell off a cliff and the only way I saved him was by grabbing him by the harness."

So, a harness can not only be lifesaving but has many more benefits, which according to the AKC include building a better connection and better control of your dog, reducing the risk of neck injuries, and minimizing problems and discomfort for dogs with respiratory issues.

Darcy may be the slowest of the bunch, but he has refused to let it get him down as he can be seen wagging his tail regardless of being stuck on the hike and slipping in a river.

Some users have sympathized with him and cut him some slack.

One said: "He is just a baby," and another stated he "just wants to go home, poor guy."

Another video posted by @lily_boris_darcy states Darcy is seven years old, which may explain his poor mobility issues.

The American Veterinary Medical Association revealed a 7-year-old dog is about 44 to 56 years old in human age—depending on the size. As Darcy is a large dog, he is probably on the wrong side of 50.
