Dancing With the Stars aired a shock exit for one of the Season 31 couples on Monday evening.

There had already been a major schedule shake-up to the ABC ballroom competition this week after it was confirmed there would be two episodes: one on Monday, October 17, and the other on Tuesday, October 18.

The surprises didn't stop there as one of the couples announced they were stepping down from the show during the latest episode, which streamed on Disney+.

The overall theme for Dancing With the Stars this week is "Stars' Stories Week," and Monday's specific theme was "Most Memorable Year."

For "Most Memorable Year," the Season 31 celebrity contestants—which include the likes of The Bachelorette's Gabby Windey, RuPaul's Drag Race favorite Shangela and actor Wayne Brady—picked a year in which something memorable happened to them and then danced to a song related to the period.

Newsweek has everything you need to know about who left during Week 5 of Dancing With the Stars and who survived to dance another day.

Who Went Home on Dancing With the Stars in Week 5?

It was confirmed on the Monday, October 17, episode of Dancing With the Stars that Selma Blair and her partner Sasha Farber were exiting the competition.

The actress, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, revealed she was stepping away from the show to focus on her health.

Blair and Farber took to the dance floor for one last performance and were awarded a perfect score of 40 from the judges.

The news that the pair were leaving meant that no couple was voted off the show on Monday. A duo will still be voted off on Tuesday night's episode as planned.

Newsweek has reached out to representatives for Blair, Farber and Dancing With the Stars for comment.

Speaking about Blair's decision to be so open about living with MS, Dr. Sarah Rawlings, executive director of Research and External Affairs at the MS Society told Newsweek: "It's brilliant that Selma Blair has used her platform on Dancing With the Stars to raise vital awareness of MS.

"Her performances each week – in front of an international audience of millions – have shined a spotlight on some of the relentless, painful and disabling symptoms that people with MS face. For example, dancing blindfolded to help with the sensory overload caused by her MS, or performing with a cane to help with mobility issues."

Rawlings went on to explain that MS damages nerves in your body and makes it harder to do "everyday things like walk, talk, eat and think."

"It's unpredictable and symptoms can be different for everyone and so it can often be misunderstood," she added. "That's why the role that public figures, like Selma, can play in raising awareness is crucial. By speaking out about her MS journey, Selma has helped educate viewers about the reality of living with the condition."

Dancing With the Stars continues Tuesday October 18 at 8 p.m. ET on Disney+. The episodes will be available to stream after their original airing.
