A Florida family's prank on their son's unsuspecting new girlfriend is proving to be a major hit online.

Kayla LaGasse Cox took to TikTok to share footage from her family's first dinner with their young son's new partner.

This was no ordinary get-together though, with the family proceeding to stand before the meal and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

The girlfriend had viewers online in stitches with the clip racking up more than 27 million views.

A 2019 Rasmussen Reports poll found 61 percent of adults felt the Pledge of Allegiance should be mandatory in schools, with just 28 percent opposed to the idea.

However, LaGasse Cox's family decided to take their patriotism one hilarious step further when hosting their son's new girlfriend for dinner.

In the video, the family can be seen sitting around the dinner table waiting for their food to be served.

But before that happens, they proceed to stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance, much to the surprise of the son's girlfriend.

To her credit, after a brief delay and some understandable surprise on her part, she also stands to deliver the pledge, placing her hand on her heart like the rest of the family.

One younger family member almost gives the game away by shooting a surprised look in her direction, but she nevertheless goes along with things, evidently eager to impress her partner's parents.

The cherry on top comes as the pledge concludes, with the family each spinning round once before sitting down. Sure enough, after a brief moment of contemplation, the girlfriend completes the spin before sitting down to eat.

"This is the best thing we've ever done," LaGasse Cox writes alongside the clip.

Viewers on social media evidently agreed with many flocking to the comments section to praise the pitch perfect prank and the girlfriend's sweet reaction to it.

Benmarival said: "She was so flabbergasted that she didn't know whether to spit her water or drink it."

Thekatalyst16 added: "She respected it like they were saying grace."

Maria.Angeline loved that "she even tried to keep up with the spin at the end," while Shanny commented "she's a keeper."

Gaby Hurtado spoke for many viewers when she asked: "When did you tell her it was a joke?"

It appears the family finally came clean to the girlfriend while dining together at a Chili's restaurant. Once again, before eating, they stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance and, once again, after some initial surprise, the girlfriend complied.

This time, however, the family failed to keep straight faces and, seconds later came clean that they were "just kidding" with the son going over to give her a hug for being so accommodating, despite the entire thing being a prank.

Newsweek has reached out to LaGasse Cox for comment.
