Fatal Affair is the latest movie to hit the top of the Netflix charts, knocking The Old Guard off the top spot over the weekend. The thriller sees Ellie (played by Nia Long) reunited with old friend David (Omar Epps), who then becomes psychotically obsessed with her. He gets his comeuppance, however, as he (spoilers ahead) ends up falling off of a cliff and ending up dead.

...Or does he?

As soon as viewers came to the end of Fatal Affair, many of them started questioning whether David had really died and whether Fatal Affair 2 could see the character making a shocking return into Ellie's life.

I don’t think David is dead and think there’s gonna be a part 2. Fatal Affair: the final reckoning #fatalaffair pic.twitter.com/PqAmhD1dGi

Writing on Twitter, for example, one viewer said: "I don't think David is dead and think there's gonna be a part 2. Fatal Affair: the final reckoning." Another simply tweeted, "David still alive- Fatal Affair II."

Though his fall seemed pretty fatal, the Netflix movie did do something that a number of TV shows and films have done when they want us to think that a character has died only for them to make a shock return: They did not show viewers the body.

Just finished Fatal Affair...I mean, it wasn't awful--just predictable. I was waiting for Omar....well David to climb back up the cliff or pop up in their daughter's red Lexus once she arrived at school lol!! #FatalAffairNetflix I cant wait to star in a movie ppl tweet about lol

As this was the case, at least one viewer on Twitter was expecting him to return in the final scene, similar to how Glenn Close's character in Fatal Attraction comes back one last time ahead she was seemingly killed by the man she was obsessed with. They tweeted: "I was waiting for Omar....well David to climb back up the cliff or pop up in their daughter's red Lexus once she arrived at school."

As for how David could have survived, the location of the cliff is key. If he ended up in the water, he may have survived his fall. This may be why he let Ellie let go of his hand: He knew that he could survive the fall, and could continue his obsession while getting some of the heat off of him.

It is likely that the makers of Fatal Affair did not show the body of David as it does set up the possibility of a sequel. After all, Netflix has started doing sequels to its biggest movies in recent years. With To All the Boys 2 arriving earlier in 2020 and The Kissing Booth 2 coming in the coming weeks. The Old Guard could also be getting a sequel too, as is Fatal Affair's fellow erotic thriller 365 Dni.

Viewers will have to stay tuned, however, to find out if Fatal Affair gets enough viewers to warrant a sequel and to find out exactly how David might return if there is a Fatal Affair 2.

Fatal Affair is streaming now on Netflix.
