Over 2,000 pounds of Skyline Chili is being recalled, according to a press release.

Food processing company Morgan Foods, based in Austin, Indiana, issued the recall of approximately 2,205 pounds of chili on Wednesday.

In a press release posted to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website, the company said the recall was due to misbranding and undeclared allergens on its Skyline Chili product.

"The product contains milk, wheat, and soy, which are known allergens and not declared on the product label," it said in the press release.

In the U.S. the following eight foods or food groups account for 90 percent of serious allergic reactions: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, wheat, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"More than 170 foods are known to cause IgE-mediated food allergies," the CDC said in a report.

"Federal law requires food labels in the United States to clearly identify the food allergen source of all foods and ingredients that are (or contain any protein derived from) these common allergens."

The press release said the cans may contain cream of chicken soup and were produced on December 21, 2021.

"The following product is subject to recall: 10.5 oz. cans containing 'Skyline Chili Original Chili' with a lot code 'L2121,' product code 'CHC8T UPY' on the bottom of the can, and a best by date of December 21, 2023," the statement read.

"The cans are packed in trays marked as 'Skyline Original Chili' with an expiration date of December 21, 2024.

"The product subject to recall bears establishment number 'EST. 6806' inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide."

The statement also said there had been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.

It added that consumers should check their pantries for the product. It urged those that have purchased it not to consume it and instead throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

The FSIS has said it conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain the product is no longer available.

It closed the press release by stating members of the public with questions about the recall can contact Bridget Castellini at Wordsmith Communications at (513) 515-9673 or bcastellini@wordsworthweb.com.
