Veterans Day this year falls just days after the 2022 midterm elections which have seen a number of new faces elected to the House of Representatives and the Senate.
People who have served in various branches of the U.S. military have long been elected to Congress and many veterans served in the 117th Congress, which comes to an end in January.
Several newly elected representatives and senators have also served and will join their fellow veterans when they are sworn in as legislators when the 118th Congress begins on January 3, 2023, while other current members will leave office.

Republican Senator Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma is a veteran but will retire at the end of his present term. Democratic Senator Mark Kelly is a veteran, but his Arizona race has not yet been called in his favor.
Some members of the current House who are veterans will not be serving in the next Congress. They include GOP Representative Louie Gohmert, who is retiring, and Republican Representative Lee Zeldin, who ran unsuccessfully for governor of New York.
Not all elections have yet concluded for the House and Senate and more veterans may be elected. This list may be updated as more results become available.
Members of Congress have served across the military, in branches including the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force.
Veterans Day has been honored in one form or another since 1919. Formerly known as Armistice Day, it marked the day when Germany surrendered at the end of World War I and was formally given the name "Veterans Day" by an Act of Congress in 1954.
Here is a list of veterans currently serving in Congress as well as newly elected veterans.
