Gossip Girl season two, episode three has landed on HBO Max, and the show is showing no signs of slowing down. If anything, the drama is bigger than ever.

It picked up from the cliffhanger of episode two, which saw Monet (played by Savannah Lee Smith) declare a full-out war against former queen bee JC (Jordan Alexander), and as expected, it appears that Monet will stop at nothing to ensure she gets to the top.

Elsewhere, Aki (Evan Mock), Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind), and Max (Thomas Doherty) are struggling with their potential decrease in social status after announcing their relationship. Zoya (Whitney Peak) is continuing not to address her savior complex and, in a shocking twist, Gossip Girl's identity is in jeopardy of being unmasked.

Newsweek has the full recap of Gossip Girl season two, episode three below.

The Five Jaw-Dropping Moments From Gossip Girl Season 2, Episode 3

1. Nick Lott's Lies

Something about Zoya's dad, Nick (Johnathan Fernandez), has been unsettling everyone for a while and, in episode three, audiences learned a little more about what has been going on.

Nick had been telling Zoya and others that he had received a promotion at work, allowing him, Zoya, and JC to stay in their small apartment in Buffalo. However, it turns out, JC's father, Davis (Luke Kirby), has been helping to pay for the entire thing.

Nick, who has been doing Davis a favor by taking in JC after he was exiled from high society for sexual-assault offenses, had not been fully honest with his daughter about the situation. When Zoya learned her father had been lying about his promotion, she was determined to expose him as a fraud.

Perhaps Nick is still the good guy as he has been trying to find a new job to pay the rent himself, but unfortunately, this meant accepting a role at the Big Pharma company of Monet's father, something Zoya's morals are entirely against.

Ultimately, Zoya still does not know about Nick's arrangement with Davis, but her best friend Shan does, after she hears a conversation between the two men.

How long will Shan be able to keep Nick's secret, or will she crack and tell Zoya the truth?

2. Grace Isn't as Graceful as You Think

Obie (Eli Brown) seems head over heels in love with his new girlfriend, Grace (Anna van Patten), and is apparently willing to do anything to protect his relationship, even if that means distancing himself from his friends.

At the Amnesty International Dinner at the Guggenheim, Obie did everything to ensure his pals didn't cause any drama, in the hope of staying in Grace and her mother's good books.

However, his and JC's attempts to keep the peace may have caused more trouble than they hoped.

Max, Audrey, Aki, and Max's friends pilled themselves with drugs, with JC eventually embracing the chaos and Monet even getting into a fight, all in front of Obie's eyes.

At the end of the episode, Obie was also told to stay away from JC by Grace's mom, Republican politician Charlotte Byron, but at the moment, it is not clear why.
However, Charlotte's concerns may all be for nothing as it turns out that Grace is having an affair.

Hopefully, audiences will find out in episode four what is really going on there.

3. Monet's Reality Check

Everybody knows that Monet would stop at nothing to get to the top, but it turns out compromising her own identity is where she drew "the line."

Monet had epic plans to team up with her long-time crush Tiffany and become the sapphic power couple the internet always wanted. However, after a make-out sessionwhere they posed for photographsTiffany revealed she had a secret boyfriend and was heterosexual.

Monet quite rightly accused Tiffany of queer-baiting and was left feeling totally crushed by what had happened. But, in true Monet style, she bounced back and exposed Tiffany on Gossip Girl.

Monet also had the support of her frenemy JC, leading to a classic Gossip Girl catfight on the Guggenheim floor.

4. The Alliance

In a twist that nobody could have foreseen, after the drama and fight at the Guggenheim, JC and Monet then decided to put their feud to rest and team up, sharing the crown of queen bee.

5. Gossip Girl's Identity

Finally, audiences got to learn a little more about the mysterious mind of Kate Keller (Tavi Gevinson), aka Gossip Girl.

Sadly, Kate's father is an alcoholic and, at first, it looked like the new teacher on the block Mike Shubin (Pico Alexander) was there to support her.

In fact, it appeared like a romance between them was on the cards, especially when he asked her out on a date at the end of the episode.

However, in a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, Mike was spotted texting an unknown number: "I'm getting closer. I should know who Gossip Girl is by the end of the week."

Kate had better keep her cards close to her chest on their date, but she may have already shared too much.

Episodes of Gossip Girl season two drop every Thursday on HBO Max.
