A grandmother has been praised after she made a visiting pug-shih tzu mix called Alfie feel welcome at her home.

In a viral video uploaded to TikTok, which can be seen here, Holly Annabelle-Taylor—who goes by the username holly_a_taylor—explained that her grandma warmed her dog's bed before they arrived.

The U.K.-based TikToker said "My nan [grandma] put a hot water bottle on my dog's bed so it was warm by the time I arrived with him," the caption on the video said.

In the short video, Annabelle-Taylor's grandma showed Alfie's bed on a sofa after it had been warmed up.

While Anabelle-Taylor and her grandma spoke to one another, Alfie could be seen running around the backyard after it had rained earlier in the day.

"The purest soul," Annabelle-Taylor said in another caption.

According to the U.K.-based Battersea Dogs and Cats Home charity, there are several things people can do to make a dog or puppy comfortable in a new space. These include:

  • Make it clear where the dog is welcome and where they should not be. Keep certain doors shut to prevent curious noses from pocking their way in.
  • Give your pet a safe space where they can take themselves away if they need some quiet time. This could be an open crate with some blanket over it, or just a comfy bed in a space away from people.
  • Let them settle in at their own pace. Your dog might act as though they have been in the space forever, while others need more time and that it's nothing personal.

The TikTok video has attracted more than 168,600 views and more than 13,900 likes since being uploaded to the social media platform.

Many of those who commented on the post praised the grandma, with some even posting that Alfie was, in fact, her favorite grandchild.

TikTok user Shannon said: "Grandparents are honestly God's gift to earth."

Emily added: "How lovely, what a kind soul. My nanny was just the same. Keep taking these videos."

While Ashleigh Mclelland posted: "Sorry, but Alfie is your nan's favorite grandchild."

Mollydc said: "So wholesome."
