Jake Lacy has opened up on the interaction he had with Jennifer Coolidge when they first met.

The actors worked together on HBO's The White Lotus, which won big at the recent Emmy Awards.

Created by Mike White, the anthology series follows the deeply flawed lives of the staff and guests at a luxurious resort in Hawaii.

Lacy played Shane, an entitled and selfish rich boy who was there on his honeymoon, who late-night host Seth Meyers described as "the best a**hole in the last 10 years."

While Coolidge played a mourning and lost middle-aged woman who had traveled to Hawaii to scatter her mother's ashes into the ocean.

They filmed the series in 2020 during the height of the coronavirus pandemic where the cast and crew "bubbled" in a Hawaii hotel.

The experience allowed everyone to get really close, and they would often eat dinner together.

Given the remote location of their hotel, dinner options were often limited, but there was one Thai place "crushing it locally, but they stop taking orders at 8 p.m.," according to Lacy.

"We couldn't leave. It was a bubble, so we had to order food in," he told Meyers.

He described how Coolidge had only just arrived to the location, two days after everyone else, so they invited her to choose from the takeout menu.

It was 7:56 p.m. and getting down to the wire, but Coolidge seemed unaffected, causing Lacy to get really annoyed.

"She was like, 'What do they have?'" Lacy recalled, imitating Coolidge's trademark affectations.

"Like we show her the thing [menu], and she's scanning, and she's like, 'What are you having?'"

Lacy explained that he was trying to encourage her to go faster and was thinking, "Just do it, man."

"I'm trying to be cool because we've known each other six hours, but also being like 'if you don't do this, I don't eat.'"

The Friend of the Family actor then described Coolidge's scathing takedown after they had ordered.

"She hands me the phone, and she turn and goes, 'You know, you're Shane,'" Lacy said and showed how he reacted with shock to the comment.

"Now, when she sees me, she says, 'Mike [White] knows, man. Everyone thinks you're a nice guy, but Mike see through you."

Lacy concluded the anecdote: "I mean, I love her, but that's the foot we got off on."

The White Lotus' second season premieres on October 30, and Coolidge will be reprising her role for the episodes set at an Italian hotel. She is only one of two actors returning for the second season with her fellow guest Greg (Jon Gries) returning after the pair fell in love in Hawaii.

Actors joining the second season include Aubrey Plaza, Sabrina Impacciatore, Will Sharpe, Theo James and Meghann Fahy.

Others include F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli, Adam DiMarco, Tom Hollander, Haley Lu Richardson and Leo Woodall.

The White Lotus Season 1 is available to watch on HBO Max now.
