GOP Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is apparently a fan of Captain Jack Sparrow. In a tweet that went viral Thursday, the Georgia conservative cited The Pirates of the Caribbean during a speech on the House floor.
But many social media users have pointed out that Greene got a key fact about the film franchise wrong.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Preventing a Patronage System Act on Thursday, which Newsweek previously reported "would prevent a president from placing employees under a new schedule without the approval of Congress." Only six Republicans voted in favor of the bill. Greene wasn't among them.
The viral video shows the congresswoman arguing against the proposal becoming federal law.

Greene explained that as someone who's owned a business, she understands the importance of firing those who don't do good work. She argued that it "should be no different for any president."
Then, Greene attempted to flex her cinema knowledge to illustrate her "no" vote.
"Everyone knows the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, and on the Black Pearl—it's the second one—it has pirates on the ship that become part of the ship walls," she continued. "Effectively, that's what [the bill] is doing. [The] Preventing a Patronage System Act will make employees in the executive branch just that: part of the building walls, making it impossible to get rid of them."
Greene: The executive branch must be able to have people working there that can be terminated. Everyone knows the movie Pirates of the Caribbean and on the Black Pearl, it has pirates on the ship that become part of the ship walls… pic.twitter.com/ho24ZOA0EP

Many on Twitter weighed in on the clip, with some highlighting the absurdity of Greene's speech.
"How is this real life," one person said in response. "This would bomb even as a comedy in box offices."
"Imagine being so disconnected with society, that you compare legislation to the second movie of Pirates of the Caribbean," wrote another Twitter user.

Yet others took Greene to task for misremembering certain details from the movie's plot.
"FACT CHECK: The ship MTG is describing here is the Flying Dutchman, not the Black Pearl," someone else wrote in a tweet. "That means she is also incorrect when she says that *everyone* knows the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, because she does not!"

It seems that Greene is a staunch supporter of Johnny Depp, who played Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates franchise. When Depp emerged victorious in his headline-making defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard this summer, she called it a "good victory for men, because there's not very many victories for men these days."
Newsweek has reached out to representatives for Greene and Depp for comment.
