Derek and Katie's Romance Heats Up on 'Married at First Sight': Recap
(L-R) Katie Conrad and Derek Sherman of "Married at First Sight." The newlyweds took their relationship to the next level on Season 10, episode 5, which aired on January 29, 2020. Daniel Dorsa

Love was in the air for Katie Conrad and Derek Sherman on the latest episode of Married at First Sight.

The chemistry between the newlyweds was undeniable from the moment they met at the altar, and things only seemed to heat up when the couple arrived in Panama for their honeymoon. The pair even took their relationship to the next level on Season 10, episode 5, titled, "Trouble in Paradise," which aired Wednesday.

Fellow castmates Jessica Studer and Austin Hurd also appeared to be hitting it off pretty well on Days 3 and 4 of their marriage, enjoying each other's company during an intimate nature walk and gushing over one another in their individual testimonials.

As for the rest of the cast, however, the MAFS experience hadn't been without its rocky moments, and one couple may already be headed towards a split.

Read on for a recap of what each couple faced on last night's episode below.

Warning: This post contains major spoilers of events that occurred on MAFS Season 10, episode 5.

Katie and Derek

I think it’s sweet Derek is willing to learn how to administer Katie’s insulin. #MAFS

The duo may very well be a perfect match. They wake up in Panama ranting and raving over each other in their individual testimonials, noting the many things they share in common. Of all the couples, Katie and Derek seem to be the most interested in learning about each other and finding true love.

Katie falls even harder for her husband when he helps with her insulin. Having had boyfriends who were dismissive or scared of her daily diabetic routine, Katie is thrilled that her new husband isn't put off by her disease.

Later on Day 3, Derek shows off his romantic side and surprises his wife by covering their hotel suite in rose petals and candles for her birthday. The sweet gesture only brings the pair closer together. On Day 4 they reveal to the rest of the cast that they consummated their marriage, making them officially husband and wife.

I love Austin and Jessica together. They are goofy and cute. It works #MAFS #MarriedAtFirstSight pic.twitter.com/LdXJnGqRkk

Jessica and Austin also appears to be completely smitten with each other during episode 5. In their individual testimonials on Day 3, they both admit to having crushes on one another. Their feelings are amplified when they take a nature walk through an iguana cage, giggling and holding hands the whole way through.

During pool time with the rest of the MAFS Season 10 cast, they discover their blossoming bond is stronger than many of their castmates' relationships. Seemingly grateful to not be in as bad of positions as some of the other newlyweds, Jessica and Austin go on a romantic spa date after the pool and express how comfortable they are being together so far. Then things heat up for the pair when they take a shower together.

Mindy and Zach

I mean Zach shouldn't have said what he said to Mindy but Mindy is also being too pushy tryna force something with him. Grilling him about his attraction level isn't gonna make him attracted #MarriedAtFirstSight #MAFS

Mindy Shiben and Zach Justice get off to a rocky start on their first few days of marriage after Zach hinted at his lack of attraction for Mindy. Between her insecurities and his inability to communicate clearly, it seems like they could be headed towards disaster. However, things start to turn around for the better when they spend some quality time together on Day 3 getting a firsthand taste of Panama's indigenous culture. It is there where they have a breakthrough and finally start learning about each other as they learn about the tribes of Panama.

Mindy has an exciting update for her castmates on Day 4. She reveals over dinner that she and Zach finally made it to first base. Their excursion away from the resort helps them better connect and nail their first kiss, too.

Taylor and Brandon

Season 10 #MarriedAtFirstSight has me running out of eye rolls. Between Brandon’s tantrums, Michael’s antics, and Zach’s cockiness, ugh. I would’ve been called Pastor Cal to send me back home. #MAFS pic.twitter.com/bPDcismila

Despite hitting it off right away, Day 3 is a rough one for Taylor Dunklin and Brandon Reid. The newlyweds spend most of the day not speaking to each other after Brandon—upset with Taylor for video tapping him as he woke up that morning—decided to give her the silent treatment.

Brandon finally opens up during dinner and reveals to Taylor that her morning recording caused him to have a panic attack. Although the incident nearly resulted in the couple fighting at the dinner table, tempers cool and Taylor offers to be more considerate of Brandon's space while Brandon agrees to be better at expressing himself when something is wrong.

In an attempt to clear the air between them, Brandon plans a romantic evening bath for the couple on Day 4.

Meka and Michael

Michael telling Meka she gotta have sex with him at the honeymoon instead of just tryna get close to & seduce her tells me all I need to know about why he’s here #MAFS #MarriedAtFirstSight pic.twitter.com/9JLMevxNzz

— cher (@simply_Kii) January 30, 2020

After deciding to spend the first night of their honeymoon in separate rooms, Meka Jones wakes up on Day 4 feeling like marrying Michael Watson was a big mistake. Meanwhile, Michael still refuses to take accountability in how his flip-flopping behavior on- and off-camera might have affected his chances of having a solid marriage with Meka.

Pastor Calvin Roberson offers his sound advice in an effort to help the couple clear the air and suggests they take things slow. He encourages Michael to try to get to know Meka on her terms before pushing for intimacy. And while Michael agrees to be more patient, he later reveals to Meka that he's no longer wearing his wedding ring. In response, Meka takes off her wedding ring as well.

Married at First Sight airs on Lifetime on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET.
