Prime Video may have only started airing the current season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel less than a month ago, but the finale is nearly upon us.
On March 11, the streamer will release the season's last two episodes, which are sure to end on a cliffhanger that leaves fans eagerly anticipating Season 5 of the multiple Emmy-winning show.
There is some good news for fans of the comedy stylings of Midge Maisel (played by Rachel Brosnahan) about Season 5...but it also comes with some sad news for the future of the show going forward.
Read on for everything we know about the future of the show.
Is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Coming Back for Season 5?

Oh yes: Just one day before the current season came out on Prime Video, Amazon announced that they had greenlit Season 5.
In fact, at that time in February 2021, the company announced that production was already underway in New York City on the fifth season of the historical comedy-drama.
In a statement, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said: "Amy [Sherman-Palladino], Dan [Palladino, co-showrunners], and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel have blazed an unparalleled path, elevating the stories we tell about women, challenging the norms in our industry, and forever altering the entertainment landscape with their one-of-a-kind storytelling."
Will Season 5 Be the Final Season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel?
That's the bad news: The fifth season may have been confirmed, but it was also revealed that this was to be the last season of the show. "This series has meant so much to Prime Video and the effects of its success will be felt long after its final season," Salke said of this.
Per interviews with the show's creator, the series always had a set end point. As co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said in an interview: "We know where we want [Midge]'s story to end, we don't know how many more seasons it will take to get there, but we know when the journey is over." Back in 2017, she had estimated to The Hollywood Reporter that it would take "four or five seasons" to get to that end point.
So far, the Palladinos have not revealed much of their plans for Season 5—no doubt to prevent spoilers for the current season finale. However, a Deadline interview seemed to hint that the next season would take us to 1961, when the rise of folk musicians like Bob Dylan changed the Greenwich Village scene that Midge is such a part of.
As Dan Palladino put it: "This series is really set in the pre-Bob Dylan Greenwich Village. When Bob hit, it was kind of at its peak and then the village, as we're depicting it, started to go away...The heyday of the poetry readings and the odd music and the odd comedy and jazz players playing with comedians and all that stuff."
So far, there is no release date for Season 5 of the show—though the fact it is already in production should mean that viewers are not in for another two-year wait between seasons.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 finale airs March 11 on Prime Video; Seasons 1 to 4 are streaming now.
