Overwatch 2 has been out for over a week, and players have been met with good and bad times in Blizzard's hero shooter. Long queue times and an unexpected auto-purchase bug have been just a couple of the issues cropping up for players over the past several days.
But not everything has been bleak for Overwatch 2. Many have been enjoying the game's different modes and maps and the different heroes on offer within the sequel to 2016's original Overwatch. While the first title was more PvP (player versus player) and only brought in PvE (player versus environment) content every once in a while, Blizzard has different plans for Overwatch 2.
Part of the new plans includes an entire campaign and story mode, which features PvE content within the Overwatch universe. Blizzard has always done an amazing job at creating an intriguing and enthralling world, and that world has really only been shown off in depth in the various animated shorts that the studio released after the first game's launch.

Now, with Overwatch 2, players will finally get to see some of that story explored within the confines of the game itself. It's an exciting step, especially for players who want to see more of the story surrounding some of their favorite heroes, but the story mode isn't available yet.
Blizzard has said it is working on the story mode and plans to release it down the line. It's unclear why it wasn't part of the game's initial launch, and, as a result, many have found themselves wondering when Blizzard plans to release Overwatch 2's story mode.
Unfortunately, the studio has yet to offer any kind of resolute release date. Instead, players will have to wait as Blizzard has only offered "sometime in 2023" as a possible release window. However, the content featured within the story mode has been showcased in some of the trailers Blizzard released for Overwatch 2 over the past couple of months. As such, it's possible a release date for the PvE content will drop before then.
In the meantime, though, there is still plenty for players to do in Overwatch 2. Not only should they get used to all of Kiriko's abilities, but with less than 60 days left in Season 1, players should hurry and level their Battle Pass.
The pass is the main way to earn new cosmetics in Overwatch 2, so it's something that mainstay players will want to pay close attention to over the coming weeks as they prepare for Season 2 and then the eventual release of Overwatch 2's story mode.
