With a short pass to the end zone, Patrick Mahomes and Mecole Hardman claimed the third Super Bowl victory of the Mahomes-era in Kansas City on Sunday as the Chiefs eked out a 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

In the aftermath, Mahomes couldn't believe how little Hardman celebrated at first. Crashing Hardman's interview with the NFL Network, Mahomes grabbed a microphone.

"Can I tell a quick funny story?" the quarterback asked.

"Please," one of the hosts answered.

Minutes before during the presentation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Hardman had told commentator Jim Nantz that he blacked out when he caught the ball in which Nantz immediately moved on from the interview.

However, it seems Hardman wasn't lying.

"I threw a touchdown to this dude to end the game, and he looked at me," Mahomes told the NFL Network. "He had no idea. I said, 'Dude, we just won the Super Bowl.' He said he blacked out. He had no idea. I'm like, 'Bro.' Because he didn't even celebrate at the beginning. I'm like, 'What are we doing?'"

Hardman laughed along with the rest of the panel.

"It's time to celebrate now," he said.

Hardman had a bizarre season. He started his career with the Chiefs, but signed a $4 million deal with the New York Jets this past offseason. The Jets, however, barely used him and eventually dealt him back to the Chiefs.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce told reporters after the game that he "couldn't be happier" for Hardman.

"It brought me to tears seeing that he was the man who brought us this ring," Kelce said. "Sometimes the media can be pretty harsh on a guy. Mecole is one of my favorite teammates ever, just because he keeps showing up. He keeps trying to find ways to win....When everyone counted him out, even the Jets counted him out, we were so excited when he got back in the building because he's the kind of guy that brings everybody together. He's got that kind of personality."

Meanwhile, Hardman did clarify postgame on X, formerly Twitter, that he knew the rules for overtime despite his blackout. He also praised Mahomes profusely when asked how much confidence the Chiefs have in the quarterback.

"How much confidence is there in the world?" Hardman asked reporters rhetorically. "Whatever that is, that's what we have in him."

Mahomes, in return, praised Hardman's resilience.

"I've played with Mecole for a long time," he said. "He's always ready for the moment, and he's someone that continues to practice hard and get better. Obviously that receiver rotation, we were bouncing around a lot of guys all year long, and those guys just continue to work. Just like last Super Bowl, you never know who it's going to be. It's about everybody being ready for the moment, and he was ready for the moment."
