Tarountula is a Pokemon that players can acquire early on in their adventure in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While this Pokemon isn't a Legendary Pokemon of any kind, it does give you some nice special abilities to work with in later battles. Here's what you need to know to catch and evolve Tarountula in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Where to catch Tarountula in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

After playing through the first bits of the introduction and choosing your starter Pokemon, players will be given a chance to explore the Poco Path on their way up to the lighthouse. There are a number of Pokemon in this area, including Tarountula, making it very easy to catch this Pokemon early on in the game.

You'll be able to find Tarountula walking around and hanging from trees. The Pokemon looks similar to a spider covered in a ball of the web, and when approached, it will interact with the player. If you see it hanging from a tree, you can press ZL to target it, and then press ZR to throw a PokeBall at it and initiate battle.

Catching Tarountula isn't difficult, especially since most of the Pokemon you'll see of this species are very low-level. Luckily, those low levels can quickly be grinded up, making it easy to level and evolve Tarountula into Spidops.

How to Evolve Tarountula

Unlike some special Pokemon, like Eevee or Porygon, players won't need any kind of special items to level up and evolve Tarountula into its second form, Spidops. Instead, all you'll need to do is reach Level 15.

At this point, you'll have a chance to evolve the little Tarountula into a Spidops, unlocking access to yet another special skill that you can utilize in combat.

Because Tarountula is a Bug-type Pokemon, it evolves very quickly. However, this quick leveling and evolution also mean that Spidops is not exactly a Pokemon that you will carry into the more difficult sections of the game. Sure, you can, but there are much better Pokemon you can rely on, like the version exclusive Pokemon found in both Scarlet and Violet.

What really makes these two Pokemon useful, though, are their main and hidden abilities. Their main ability, Insomnia, makes it impossible for Tarountula and Spidops to be put to sleep. This is handy in Pokemon that utilize sleep attacks. Finally, the Stakeout ability makes it so that any changes to the opponent's Pokemon will receive double damage when Tarountula or Spidops attacks.
