Nobody likes a noisy neighbor, especially when they disrupt your weekend plans.
Accordingly, one apartment complex resident has taken matters into their own hands with a callout on the building's notice board. The individual left four large notes, reading: "Unit 53, please try keep it down, your sexual noises ruin our weekend, regards, neighbors!"
A photo posted to Reddit by 24h00 has received 22,600 upvotes, with many encouraging Unit 53 to be even louder.
Newsweek reached out to sexual health and wellness educator Stacy Rybchin, and asked for her take on the incident. She suggested the person behind the note may be somewhat green-eyed.
"Kudos to the person who wrote the sign and left a message for their neighbors," she said.
"It is normal for people to find it annoying especially when they are trying to sleep or the sexual play lasts for a very long time.
"Clearly, this couple is enjoying themselves and finding their sexual experience pleasurable."
It seems these noisy neighbors aren't the only ones keeping the community up, as the New York citizen helpline 311 receives up to 75,000 noise complaints per month. Data collected by Patch, an American local news platform, revealed the helpline received 277 sex noise-related complaints between Feb. 19, 2021, and Feb. 9, 2022.
Rybchin added: "Someone would perhaps be jealous if they were not experiencing this type or amount of pleasure.
"Unfortunately, many people are not comfortable with feeling pleasure or they don't know how."

Over 350 people have commented on the thread since it was posted on December 18.
One user said: "Why is everyone always trying to ruin Unit 53's weekend?"
"The neighbors are probably salty because they want to be in Unit 53 on their weekends," said another.
"I read that as "Unit 53, please stop reminding us that we are not getting any," said another comment.
"You go Unit 53" cheered another.
How To Deal With Noisy Neighbours
There are a few steps to take ahead of informing the authorities about a noisy neighbor. Writing a note for all to see isn't one of them.
Find Law, an online legal resource, has provided the following suggestions for people to follow:
- Talk rather than argue.
- Give a warning—this may involve sending a letter or a copy of a tenancy agreement with the rules highlighted for the neighbor to follow.
- Mediation—this is only necessary if you enjoy a good relationship with your neighbor and want it to continue.
- Call the cops—if nothing has worked, you should call the police when you feel the neighbors are violating the ordinances.
- A worst-case scenario would be to file a lawsuit.
