Taylor Swift's Absence at Travis Kelce Game Sparks Wild Theories

Taylor Swift has faced a fair number of wild theories over the years, ranging from accusations of witchcraft to people thinking she hid in a human-sized silver container for the popcorn stall to leave after watching Travis Kelce play.

Now her absence at Kelce's NFL game yesterday has sparked further speculation as some people believe her non-attendance caused his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, to lose for only the second time this season, and the first since she began attending games.

Kelce's relationship with the pop superstar has dominated headlines in recent months, and there were suggestions she would make an appearance when the Chiefs played against the Denver Broncos, making it her fifth NFL game in six weeks.

In the end, she didn't show up, and the Chiefs went on to lose 24-9 to the Broncos for the first time in eight years.

The Broncos were facing a lengthy losing streak after Kansas City had defeated them in their last 16 match-ups; however, their victory ended that run.

Now people have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the theory as to why the Chiefs lost.

"No Taylor Swift, No party? No Taylor Swift in attendance, and the Chiefs lost to the Broncos for the first time in EIGHT years!" one person wrote.

"No Taylor Swift in attendance and the Chiefs lose their winning streak....hmmm," posted another.

"So no Taylor Swift in attendance and the Chiefs lose?" a third person commented.

"No Taylor Swift effect," a fourth added alongside a crying emoji.

Before the game, MARCA, Spain's national daily sport newspaper, theorized that Kelce not having Swift watching him from the stands may affect his performance. The publication's reasoning for this is that he simply wouldn't be as motivated.

Never mind the fact that Taylor skipped the game where the Minnesota Vikings hosted the Kansas City Chiefs at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 8, which saw the Chiefs win 27 to 20.

In another bizarre twist, CBS recently threw up a stat comparing Kelce's performance when Swift is at a game compared to when she's not. The television network did this during the Grammy winner's fourth appearance at the Kansas City Chiefs game on October 22 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The report said that Kelce has come up with more than twice the yards received during the games in which Swift has been in attendance. Moreover, the tight end scored 99 yards in each of those games, 52.5 yards more than in the contests where the "Cruel Summer" singer was not present.

Swift is getting ready for the South American leg of her highly lucrative Eras Tour, and it has been reported that she is keen to focus and continue preparations for the upcoming Argentina shows.

Newsweek reached out to both Kelce's and Swift's representatives for comment via email Monday.

Correction 10/30/23 10:45 a.m. ET: This article was updated to say it was the Kansas City Chiefs' second loss of the season, not the first.

Update 11/06/23 1:44 p.m. ET: The headline has been changed.
