Taylor Swift has released her second music video for her latest album, Midnights, just four days after it came out on Friday, October 21.

The song of choice is Bejeweled, a break up song that fans believe is about her real-life experience at the 2016 Met Gala where she famously danced with actor Tom Hiddleston shortly before her breakup with her then-boyfriend DJ Calvin Harris.

It was also the same evening she met her now boyfriend of six years, actor Joe Alwyn.

Also in Bejeweled, Swift sings about feeling under-appreciated in a relationship.

As per usual, Swift has filled the music video with numerous easter eggs that have left fans decoding the music video scene by scene. Throwing back to her Reputation era, Swift has also recruited an impressive cast to feature in the music video.

Newsweek has everything you need to know.

All of the BejeweledEaster Eggs and Cast

At the very beginning of the Bejeweled music video, the Haim sisters — Este, Haim and Danielle — make their debut. OG Taylor Swift fans will also recognize the violin strings of her 2010 song Enchanted playing in the background as they enter.

Their characters are inspired by the ugly stepsisters from the Disney fairytale Cinderella, as Swift can be seen cleaning the floor around them. The sisters are discussing attending an annual ball, where if they win the talent competition, they would win the keys to their own castle and a marriage proposal from the prince.

They are named Lady Danielle, who has her eyes on the ring at the ball, Lady Este who wants "the title" and Lady Alana who wants to (to put it politely) spend the evening with some men.

Swift, known as the "House Wench Taylor" wants the castle. Audiences learn she has been "exiled" (a reference to her Folklore song Exile with Bon Iver), but not for much longer.

The sisters also hurl abuse at Swift, with Danielle calling her a "snake," a nod to what trolls have called Swift online following her fallout with Kanye West and her Reputation album era.

Oscar-winning actress Laura Dern also makes an appearance as Swift's evil stepmother, telling her daughters a "marriage proposal" is the highest prize a woman could receive, showing off all of her engagement rings.

Dern's character also reveals Swift once dated the prince, but he "tired of her quite quickly," joking "or should I say Swiftly," a nod to the tabloid headlines Swift has featured in over the years when a relationship has ended.

Swift then thanks her stepmother for reciting a joke that "never gets old."

In the hilarious opening, the Haim sisters even get to sing their viral "hungover" song they posted on Instagram as they prepare for the party.

However, Swift refuses to stay at home, and she sings the lyrics: "Putting someone first only works when you're in their top five/And by the way/I'm going out tonight." She is then seen heading to the ball.

To avoid being caught, she wears a bejeweled cloak before revealing a sparkling corset. She sings the lyrics: "Best believe I'm still bejeweled / When I walk in the room / I can still make the whole place shimmer," which could be a reference to the silver Louis Vuitton snakeskin dress she wore to the 2016 Met Gala.

Swift also refers to the viral dance-off she and Hiddleston had at the 2016 Met Gala, singing: "Best believe I'm still bejeweled / When I walk in the room / I can still make the whole place shimmer."

In the second verse of "Bejeweled," Swift sings the line: "Did all the extra credit then got graded on a curve/ I think it's time to teach some lessons," which may be in reference to the songs she wrote for Harris while they were dating, including the huge hit: "This Is What You Came For" featuring Calvin Harris and Rihanna.

Swift then sings: "Have you heard?/I can reclaim the land," which may allude to Swift's battle against Scooter Braun, who purchased the master recordings of her first six albums and then sold them to an investment group. As a result, Swift has decided to re-record her old music.

Swift's Fairy Goddess, played by Dita Von Teese, helps her along the way to prepare for the ball.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon about casting Von Teese in the video, Swift said: "Then we have one of my favorite performers who I think has been so influential in pop music and I've nicknamed this character not the fairy godmother but the fairy goddess, and that is played by Dita von Teese who I think is one of the most iconic performers and it's so exciting to get to see her do what she does in this."

After impressing Queen Pat at the ball, played by famous make-up artist Pat McGrath, Swift won the proposal from Prince Jack, played by collaborator and Bleachers frontman, Jack Antonoff.

The "Bejeweled" music video comes to an end with Swift "ghosting" Prince Jack, but keeping the castle for herself. The reference to ghosting could well be linked to her Midnights song "Anti-Hero," in which she sings: "When my depression works the graveyard shift/ All of the people I've ghosted stand there in the room."

Many other Easter Eggs fans have noticed in the "Bejeweled" music video have got fans thinking 2010's Speak Now could be the next re-recorded album Swift will release. They include:

  • References to the number 3 throughout the music video. Speak Now was her third studio album.
  • She released "Bejeweled" on the 12th anniversary of Speak Now's debut.
  • The necklace Swift wears and the elevator buttons are the colors of Swift's albums.
  • Swift stands on a balcony at the end of the video, echoing the set of her Speak Now tour.
  • At the end of the "Bejeweled" music video, an orchestral version of her Speak Now track "Long Live" sounds as the video comes to a close.

Announcing the release of the video to fans on her Instagram, Swift said the Cinderella-inspired movie was created for "beloved fans who have paved this shimmering path."

She wrote: "Midnight, what a storied and fabled hour... On this sparkling evening, I'll be releasing my twist on a fairytale we all know. The one about the girl and her step sisters and the clock striking 12... This video is wild, whimsical, and created SPECIFICALLY for you, my beloved fans who have paved this shimmering path. Look out for some dazzling cameos! Join us later for a very Bejeweled premiere."
