With more than 720,000 views and thousands of likes, the video captured hearts thanks to Cooper's adorable reaction to seeing his friend.
"We don't deserve dogs," wrote one TikToker. While another reply said: "Such love and loyalty."
"Just when I thought I was done crying, come on guys," said another comment.
Thankfully, Cooper wasn't waiting for too long and his friend soon arrived. In a follow-up video, he and his canine friend were reunited and playing together.
But do dogs really have canine best friends? One example suggests so. Psychology Today reported the example of Mickey and Percy as evidence that dogs form friendships.
Mickey was a Labrador Retriever owned by William Harrison, and Percy was a Chihuahua that was given to his daughter. Despite their difference in size, the dogs quickly became firm friends. Playing together, chasing each other around, and curling up together to sleep.
Sadly, one day Percy was hit by a car during a game on the front lawn. First on the scene was Labrador Mickey, who barked and whined and nosed his friend. While the humans wept and grieved, so did the dog.
Mickey proceeded to sit at the grave of his friend all night when the humans went to bed. But in the morning, they were greeted with a worrying sight. Mickey had dug up the grave and was frantically licking the face of his friend. As the human owners moved Mickey away with tears in their eyes, they watched as Percy weakly lifted his head and whimpered. Percy the Chihuahua survived thanks to the instinct of his friend. Not giving up on him, Mickey's loyalty meant that the dogs were once again able to play together and share a long friendship.
"It's amazing how they know to wait," said one commenter. While another viewer of the viral video wrote: "That is so precious."
"Their souls and hearts are so pure," wrote another reply: "Literal angels on earth."
Not the only pup to be captured waiting for an eagerly-awaited playdate, earlier this year a Doodle waiting outside his neighbor's door for his friend to come and play also delighted viewers.
