Epic Proposal Fail Caught on Camera as Man Jumps in Sea to Save Ring

Millions have watched the hilarious moment a man retrieves an engagement ring after dropping it in the sea.

The viral TikTok video shared by @smclyne has been viewed by more than 4.9 million social-media users. It has also received over 875,000 likes since it was posted on November 14.

The man can be seen preparing to get down on one knee before the box accidentally falls into the ocean.

Luckily, he manages to pop the question with the ring after diving in and retrieving it.

It seems the man would have been at a major loss if the box hit the bottom water as engagement rings aren't cheap.

According to The Knot survey of more than 5,000 respondents who got engaged from January to November 2021, the average cost of an engagement ring is $6,000.

The results found couples from the Mid Atlantic have the highest average spend, at $7,900, while Midwestern dwellers were behind, averaging $5,200 on their engagement rings.

In areas such as New England, the Southwest, and the Southeast, the average spend was $7,400, $5,500, and $5,300, respectively. However, 8 percent of ring shoppers spent under $1,000.

The wedding online network also discovered the most popular type of engagement stone continues to be diamonds (86 percent), with round (41 percent) remaining the most popular cut. However, oval-shaped gems have seen a steady increase in popularity over the years.

In the viral TikTok video, the woman cannot control her laughter, and she isn't the only one. Almost 2,000 people have commented on the viral clip and they're all saying the same thing.

The top comment, which has received more than 12,000 likes, read: "WE WANT TO SEE THE RING".

One TikToker commented: "All you had to do was reach over and grab it..." to which the original poster, who appears to be the man, replied: "Any hesitation and the box would've filled with water and most likely sunk to the bottom. It's not sealed and I wasn't risking it lol. Panic set in."

One TikTok user posted: "Aww this is a proposal to remember," and another wrote that it was a "perfect proposal."

Another comment read: "I mean I would hope she said yes, he went literally head over heels for her."

This isn't the only engagement accident Newsweek has shared, with one woman accidentally filming her own proposal, and a man falling into the water when proposing in Las Vegas.
