Rabbit Bun Jovi and dog Abel have shown different types of companion animals can indeed be the "best of buds."

A viral video shared on Reddit's r/aww group by Krystalyn Hodson on October 21 showed the clear bond between the pair as they walked around their garden in northern California.

In the clip, which was also shared on Facebook and can be seen here, Abel can be seen giving Bun Jovi a little nudge while they are standing on the house steps as if to ask his tiny friend if they could go for a small walk together.

After a few moments as Bun Jovi hopped along the path and Abel picked up a stick, the two came together as though they felt very comfortable having each other around.

"Within three days [of meeting] they were cuddling and best of buds. The rabbit seems completely in love with Abel and will follow him everywhere he goes," Hodson told Newsweek. "The dog, in turn, seems to always keep a good eye on Bun Jovi and never let any harm come to him while he is outside with him."

Hodson and her partner Tony found Bun Jovi, now 3, "hopping down a semi-busy" street in February last year and efforts to find his owners unfortunately proved unsuccessful. They decided to take him in and allowed him to roam free with their 2-year-old dog rescue dog Abel.

"They are constantly outside playing, they take turns digging the same holes together and then come inside and nap together," Hodson said. "They eat next to each other, occasionally Bun Jovi steals kibble from Abel's bowl. Abel never minds, [and has] never growled at him or [shown] any aggression."

Since being shared on Reddit, the post has attracted an estimated 10,000 upvotes and more than 70 comments.

Dogs and Other Pets

"Dogs are social creatures by nature and they crave interaction with humans and non-humans alike," according to Rover.com which connects dogsitters with pet parents. "Even though dogs would rather socialize with other dogs, they will form a bond with a non-canine under the right circumstances."

"Dogs have similar emotional capabilities to that of a 2 or 3-year-old human. Basic emotions but nothing too complex," Rover.com added. "Our dogs crave the companionship of other animals. Although they prefer dogs, biology dictates they will accept other mammals under the right circumstances. This leads to some pretty adorable mixed packs."

Online Reaction to Video

Many of those who commented on the post praised the friendship between Bun Jovi and Abel and shared their own experiences of their dogs and rabbits living together.

Reddit user ReadditMan said: "Bun Jovi is like: 'I'm gonna stick close to you big guy, then the birds won't mess with me.'"

Pantastic_Studios added: "I've had dogs and bunnies get along before but not this close."

Ok-Anywhere7413 commented: "We raised a couple of bunnies with our pups too. They got along fine."
