Overwatch 2 is now officially out in the wild, and it's gone free-to-play. That means, unlike the first game, you don't have to spend a dime to jump in and join everyone else earning progress toward their favorite skins and cosmetics. Instead of using the familiar loot box system, you'll now need to earn XP toward goals by way of a battle pass.
It's a different approach to a game that many had issues with thanks to the gambling-centric nature of the loot boxes. You can still spend plenty of additional money on the game, though, like with packs that include various skins and other items. Right now, there's an Overwatch 2: Watchpoint Pack available as what appears to be a game purchase instead of an add-on. Because of this, it may be a bit confusing as to what you actually need to play the game and what you get with this pack.
The reality is, you only need to buy things piecemeal in Overwatch 2. You don't need to buy any special packs or skins if you don't want to. It will take quite a while to achieve all the goals in every tier, but you'll be able to do it eventually.
If you're curious about the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack and aren't sure whether it's worth the investment, we've got all the details on the add-on here. Be sure to check out what you get with the pack before you proceed with purchasing, as with all microtransactions.

What's in the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack?
The Watchpoint Pack is $39.99 and includes the following:
- Season One Premium Battle Pass
- 2000 Overwatch Coins
- 7 Legendary Skins with 2 new Space Raider Skins: Space Raider Soldier 76 and Space Raider Cassidy
- 5 Epic Skins, including Okami Hanzo and Shrike Ana
- Instant access to new support hero Kiriko
The Season One Premium Battle Pass contains 80 tiers of rewards, including Kiriko's Legendary Hinotori skin, Mythic Cyber Demon Genji and other goodies you can unlock by progressing through the game.
You do not need to purchase the Watchpoint Pack to play Overwatch 2. It is strictly an add-on for players who wish to skip some of the grind associated with the battle pass and receive additional goodies. If you just want to play Overwatch 2 without spending anything, you can still do that.
There is a decent value here with the amount of skins you receive as well as Overwatch Coins, however, considering Premium skin prices as we've seen in the lead-up to the first Battle Pass.
Overwatch 2 is available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
