Now that the original Overwatch has been shut down, there's no alternative besides playing another game here, unfortunately. Sometimes you just have to wait things out. Eventually these types of problems will fix themselves without you needing to intervene.
If you're unsure how to proceed when you try to log on to Overwatch 2 and are greeted with an error message or a long queue, read on to understand what to do next and potential Overwatch 2 issues.

Is Overwatch 2 Down? Planned Outages
Right now, the Overwatch 2 servers are currently down for maintenance. Blizzard posted a tweet from the official Overwatch Twitter account confirming the upcoming outage, which is set to last for one hour on October 6, from 6 to 7 p.m. EST. After that, the servers will remain live for two hours, and then be pulled offline for three additional hours.

Blizzard is hoping to resolve some of the major issues that have plagued the game since launch, including problems with lengthy queue times, inability to access the game and account merge concerns that many have raised. This could help to quell some of the growing issues fans have raised with the game since they haven't had much time to successfully log in and play with the persistent server errors and queues.
How to Check Overwatch 2 Servers
Otherwise, when there isn't planned maintenance, there are ways to check and see if the Overwatch 2 servers are down. Unplanned downtime will likely continue throughout the lifecycle of the game, so it's prudent to check and see if there are server problems happening when you can't get online.
You can do this by first going to the official Twitter account for the game: @PlayOverwatch. Any issues or planned maintenance will be found here. That way, you'll know you aren't alone if you find you just can't connect. Elsewhere, search social media for the game name and see if you get any hits. Chances are, if you can't connect, others can't either.
Many non-server-related connection issues can be solved by power cycling your modem and router or restarting your PC or console. Give that a try before troubleshooting further or just play a different game, then come back later to try again. Eventually, you'll get in.
Overwatch 2 is available now on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
