The White Lotus has wrapped up its gripping second season, with a third outing already on the cards.

Thankfully, midway through Season 2, creator Mike White and HBO announced that The White Lotus would be returning for a third outing, and in recent days, White and the cast of Seasons 1 and 2 have been teasing what fans can expect.

Although the Emmy-winning drama is technically an anthology series, meaning the cast and storylines are entirely new to each season, the second outing saw Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya and Jon Gries' Greg return for a stay at The White Lotus Resort in Italy.

Newsweek has taken a look at who could return to The White Lotus Season 3 from Season 2.

Who Could Return To The White Lotus Season 3?

Leo Woodall as Jack and Haley Lu Richardson as Portia

By the Season 2 finale, it was confirmed that Jack was involved in something very sinister and that it was very, very unlikely Quentin (Tom Hollander) was actually his uncle.

Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) learned from Tanya that Jack and Quentin had been sleeping together and quickly realized Jack was using her to ensure Tanya would be left alone with Quentin and his friends.

Her suspicions were also heightened when she woke up to find her phone, which had been placed on the bedside table, was missing. In the end, it transpired Jack had been the one to hide it.

Instead of driving Portia back to Palermo as she asked, Jack kicked her out of the car close to the airport and instructed Portia to not return to the hotel.

Now with his uncle dead and Portia knowing Jack was in on his uncle's crimes, what will Jack do next? Jack and Portia's journey would sure make for an interesting Season 3 storyline. After all, Jack gave Portia a stern warning to not do anything with the information she now knows.

Speaking to Deadline, The White Lotus creator Mike White teased: "I think as far as what happens to Greg and the conspiracy of Tanya's death, it's possible that I think Portia is scared enough to just leave it alone, but the fact that all of those guys die on the boat, it feels like there's gotta be somebody who's gonna track it down to Greg. But maybe you'll have to wait to find out what happens."

Meghann Fahy as Daphne Sullivan

Meghann Fahy's Daphne Sullivan quickly became a fan-favorite character and there are quite a few viewers out there who would want to see a Daphne spin-off.

Daphne had hinted that Cameron (played by Theo James) was not the father of her two children and shared with Ethan (Will Sharpe) she had found ways to deal with her husband's infidelity.

White teased that Season 3 of The White Lotus may take place on an entirely different continent.

He said: "The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex, and I think the third season, it would be a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. And it feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round of White Lotus."

Perhaps Daphne will fancy a solo vacation?

On the other hand, Cameron joked he, Daphne, Ethan and Harper (Aubrey Plaza) should head to the Maldives for their next vacation, which would be the perfect way to bring those four characters back for Season 3.

Simona Tabasco as Lucia and Beatrice Granno as Mia

Lucia and Mia were the two characters in The White Lotus Season 2 who walked away with exactly what they wanted.

Mia successfully secured her gig as the piano player at The White Lotus hotel, and Lucia got the 50,000 euros she wanted to live out her own dreams. She may have tricked Albie into having feelings for her in the process but the money came from his sleazy father, leaving many viewers cheering for Lucia.

With their newfound success and money, it would be entertaining to see Lucia and Mia go on the trip of a lifetime and perhaps check in to a White Lotus resort.

Sadly, one fan-favorite who is unlikely to return to The White Lotus Season 3 is Jennifer Coolidge, who portrayed tragic heiress Tanya in Seasons 1 and 2.

Tanya died in The White Lotus Season 2 finale by falling from a yacht and into the sea, where she drowned.

However, Tanya did go out in true Tanya style. She shot her soon-to-be killers one by one before almost escaping with her life. Ultimately she succumbed to the sea after tripping over her high heels.

Tanya's death would have come as a bit of shock to fans, considering creator White had previously stated he would not do the show without her.

He told Deadline ahead of the Season 2 premiere: "Jennifer is my friend and everybody loved her in the first season, and I was like, 'I can't go to Italy without Jennifer' and maybe that's still the case.

"Like, maybe you can't go to Japan without Jennifer, either. There are so many fun actors we've worked with so far, so it's just kind of like who's available and who will do it and how it all works out. I think it's fun to bring somebody back from some seasons."

Seasons 1 and 2 of The White Lotus are streaming on HBO Max now.
