The White Lotus creator has addressed what happened between Ethan and Daphne after finding out their spouses cheated with each other.

The Season 2 finale of the anthology series revealed who got killed, and how, but also the culmination of the brewing tension between the holidaying couples.

Liberal couple Ethan (Will Sharpe) and Harper (Aubrey Plaza) went on vacation with his Yale dorm room buddy, Cameron (Theo James) and wife Daphne, played by The Bold Type's Meghann Fahy.

One of the closing scenes of the season saw Daphne and Ethan head to an abandoned home near their hotel alone after discussing their spouses' potential infidelity with each other.

That led to fans theorizing Daphne wanted to exact revenge on her husband by cheating with Ethan, but show creator, Mike White, teased audiences further with his response.

"The question of whether Harper and Cameron did more than the kiss, I think probably that's just all that happened," White said in an HBO special which aired after The White Lotus finale.

He added there was some time that wasn't "completely accounted for," and that's what was "eating at Ethan."

"Ethan comes to Daphne and did they have some kind of a dalliance on the island? Or whatever happened it allows him to let go of the jealousy that has been brewing with him," White continued.

Whatever may have happened with Daphne and Ethan, White confirmed it brought back the "first kind of sexual charge that happens in the beginning of the relationship and sometimes fades away over time."

"By the end, you're like, well maybe what Ethan and Harper needed was just a small dash of what Cameron and Daphne have," White said.

Talk of sexual misconduct, cheating and the couples' general divergent moral standpoints had dominated their time at the luxury Sicilian resort.

Cameron had no qualms in admitting he had been accused multiple times of sexual harassment at work and even exposed himself to Harper by stripping naked in front of her in the first episode.

Daphne also revealed in veiled terms that she was aware of her husband's infidelities and learns to cope, namely by sleeping with her trainer.

Meanwhile, Ethan and Harper's marriage was struggling as their sexual spark had gone and she believed he cheated on her with sex workers during a bender with Ethan while she was out of town with Daphne.

But everything came to a head when Ethan became enraged after realizing Cameron flirted with Harper before they disappeared up to their hotel room, and she eventually admitted they kissed.

Ethan confronted Cameron in the water and the pair got into a violent bust-up.

As he emerged from the water, Daphne calls Ethan over to chat, where he revealed their spouses' infidelity.

As Daphne took stock of the news, she then invited Ethan to join her on an exploration of the abandoned home near their hotel.

What they do there is not seen, but the show cuts to Ethan passionately having sex with his wife, presumably because whatever happened with him and Daphne, it has lit a spark back in their marriage.

Despite the rollercoaster of their time in Italy, each couple is seen happily canoodling at the airport as they wait to get their flight home.

The White Lotus is available to watch on HBO Max now.
