Woman Rejected From Potential Promotion, Was Given to Her Trainee Instead

A woman has posted a video going viral on social media about how she was rejected from a potential job promotion, only for it to be offered to her trainee.

In a popular video uploaded to the video-sharing platform, TikTok, a user named Katya Melo—under the username @katyaarilatos—shared her story on getting rejected from a job promotion. The viral video has over 31,000 likes and 300,000 views.

Melo recorded the video in her car while eating, "Have you ever had a job where you do everything, you know everything, you train everyone? Well, I'm that person at my job, I've been there for four years."

She explained that they had recently opened up a supervising position. After she applied, she found out that she was rejected and it was given to someone that she trained.

She captioned her video, "Venting... it's so upsetting to work so hard and for what?"

Many users of TikTok urged the woman to quit her job.

"Please tell me you put in your two weeks," one user added.

One warned, "It's time to leave!!! Don't wait, I waited 11 years!!!"

"They didn't give you the position cause that means they'd have to hire 2-3 more people to fill your old spot. Go somewhere where they value you," said another.

"Believe me when I say, know your worth," another gave the TikToker advice.

"It's usually a popularity contest and keep the worker bees where they are even though your fully qualified," one wrote.

One explained, "I had a manager once tell me when you make yourself irreplaceable in certain positions you stunt your opportunity to grow."

Others shared their own experience that is similar to hers,

A TikTok user stated, "This happened to my mom after 5 years and the person was going to get payed way more and my mom literally trained her...get out now!!!!"

"Yep. I feel like I need to see this. I've been with my company 18 years and they told me I wasn't articulate enough," said another.

"Same thing, a position opened for a lead and a new hire got it! & yeah it became a problem so I brought it up and got a raise! Still plan on leaving," one TikTok user admitted.

Another user explained, "This same thing happened to me and their excuse was they didn't think I'd be able to be tough enough on the other employees."

One urged, "Yes, I was in that situation as well for 10 years. I trained and kept training for all to be promoted but me. Look out for yourself! It is time to go!"
