A video has gone viral on TikTok after a woman allegedly ruined her own proposal.

In the footage, Brooklyn-based couple Monica and Andrew, @MonicaAndAndrew, can be seen posing while a waiter takes their photo.

Monica can be heard saying, "Is the flash on? I need the flash on," and walks towards the waiter holding the phone, just as Andrew produces a ring and asks, "Is that flashing? Here!" unbeknownst to Monica.

The text read "POV: You just wanted a fit pic and bf tries to propose but you need to check the waiters angles." No user in the comments questioned why the waiter would be videoing if Monica was expecting a photo to be taken with the flash.

For many people, proposing to a loved one can be one of the most nerve-wracking moment in a person's life. Not only is there the pressure of whether it will be a 'yes' or not, but there's also the pressure to get it perfectly right.

According to a study by Psychology Today, tradition is still important when it comes to a heterosexual proposal. The research found that when a man proposed without a ring, his proposal was 8.5 times more likely to be rejected, and it he did not get down on one knee, his proposal was 4.7 times more likely to be rejected.

Wedding website Hitched suggests that planning is key to pulling off the perfect proposal. Think about whether you want to propose indoors or outdoors, in public or private, at home or abroad, with an audience or without?

Despite the study, Hitched says that proposing without a ring is becoming increasingly common as women want to have a say in what it looks like. Why not purchase a less valuable ring that can have sentimental value and compliment a future official engagement band?

The video has been viewed more than four million times, with many TikTokers calling for an update.

In a follow-up video responding to the comment, "Nahhh this is too funny I need an update imagine he fumbled n didn't go through with it and she just sees this in her Live Photo," Monica shows off her ring to the camera, while Andrew can be heard saying, "I think that's flashy enough, no?"

One TikToker commented: "he is stronger than me ... i'd fully just not propose and move in the middle of the night out of pure humiliation."

TikToker name wrote, "Best proposal line ever," while Melissa posted, "you walked away. i'm weak." Revelry commented, "gotta make sure the pics come out right! Congratulations!"
