There is bittersweet news for fans of Netflix's Young Royals. The show will officially return for Season 3 but sadly, the third outing will be the show's last.
Young Royals burst onto the screen in 2021 with Season 2 following in November 2022. At the moment a release date has not been confirmed for Season 3 but following the previous release patterns, Season 3 is expected to land on Netflix in the latter half of 2023.
Netflix announced the show's third and final season via its social channels on Wednesday, December 14, shortly after the cancelation of another popular LGTBQ+ drama, Warrior Nun, leaving fans devastated.
The show's cast and creator behind Young Royals have also addressed the show's cancelation and have also teased what audiences can expect in the third outing.

What The Young Royals Cast and Creator Have Said About Show Cancelation
On Wednesday, December 14, Netflix Nordic confirmed Young Royals would be back for a third and final season.
In true Young Royals fashion, the news was revealed with the Hillerska choir performing their rendition of "Twelve Days of Christmas."
The Netflix global Twitter account also confirmed the news, tweeting: "Simon + Wilhelm forever? Young Royals will return for a third and final season."
Young Royals head writer and co-creator Lisa Ambjörn also confirmed the news in a statement to Gay Times.
She said: "I've always imagined Young Royals being told in three parts, and because of the fans' dedication to our story, we get to tell the last one."
Ambjörn continued to explain that the ending of Young Royals has been "clear to me from the start" and that she's "thankful and honored" to finish the series as she originally intended.
Ambjörn followed up her statement with an emotional post on Instagram, saying the show was "beyond anything any of us could have ever dreamed or hoped for."
She wrote: "If someone had told me in 2019 when this little universe was just a tiny idea that had been planted in my imagination and started to grow and consume my every waking thought, that it would turn out to be a global success saga spanning over three seasons—shaping new talent both in front of and behind the camera and creating a fandom that would take on a life of its own and actually change people's lives for the better—I would have said 'told you so.'
"No joke, it's actually beyond anything any of us could have ever dreamed or hoped for, and it's all thanks to you—our viewers.
"Your commitment and love for [Young Royals] has given us the honor and privilege of getting to see our story through. Because one thing I did know in 2019 was how it all was gonna end. And now my friends, it's coming. This season is the last one. Let's start..."
Season 3 of Young Royals is expected to pick up from the events of Season 2 which saw Simon (played by Omar Rudberg) end his relationship with Marcus (Tommy Wättring), as well as resolve the leaking of the scandalous video of Simon and Wilhem (Edvin Ryding ) together at the end of Season 1.
Simon eventually confessed his feelings for Wilhelm before the school's anniversary gala, leading to Wilhelm delivering a moving speech about being open and not keeping secrets.
In a big twist, Wilhelm also admitted to the press it was him in the video with Simon.
At the end of the season, Sara (Frida Argento) was seen reporting to the police that Wilhelm's cousin August (Malte Gårdinger) was the one to leak the video.
All of the Young Royal's lead characters will return including Edvin Ryding as Prince Wilhelm, Omar Rudberg as Simon, Frida Argento as Sara, Malte Gårdinger as August, and Nikita Uggla as Felice.
Speaking to Digital Spy ahead of the release of Season 2, Omar Rudberg (who plays Simon in the series) teased he wants to see Simon and Wilhelm together in Season 3.
He shared: "One thing that I really just want to see is Simon and Wilhelm—will they be happy? So we can get a taste of the love. The 100 percent love—the unconditional love—and being together. That's something that I want to see."
Rudberg continued: "It can't be like that all the time. It has to be interesting. It has to wake the feelings. But that's something that I'm looking forward to, to see them like a 'we against the world' kind of thing. That would be so beautiful to see."
Appearing on The Jimmy Fallon Show on Thursday, December 15, 2022 Edvin Ryding, who plays Wilhelm in the series shared the script for Season 3 was still being written and called the final outing "bittersweet."
He continued: "We're looking forward for this chapter to close and what's gonna happen with Simon and Wilhelm."
Malte Gårdinger, who portrays August in the series, shared an image on his Instagram of Wilhelm and Simon holding hands to celebrate the news of Season 3. Alongside the picture, he wrote: "The third and last season is now confirmed. I think it's gonna be a special one."
The first two seasons of Young Royals are streaming on Netflix now.
