Gossip Girl may not have been dropping any big bombshells in Season 2, Episode 5, but there were some pretty major moments setting the HBO Max series up for a dramatic second half.
Episode 5 saw Max (played by Thomas Doherty), Aki (Evan Mock), and Obie (Eli Brown) take a boy's trip to the Hamptons with Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind) staying at home in New York City, wrestling with the thought of Aki and Max enjoying their time together without her.
Elsewhere, JC (Jordan Alexander) had to decide between her head and her heart, and Obie was dealt the devastating blow that he could trust no one, not even his own family.
And while the personal lives of Constance St. Jude's students were descending into chaos, Gossip Girl was laying low, due to her identity being on the line.
Newsweek has a recap of the four major moments from Gossip Girl Season 2, Episode 5.
Gossip Girl Season 2, Episode 5 Recap
1. JC and Graham Officially Get Together
At the end of Episode 4, JC decided to meet up with mystery and married man Graham (Jarvis Tomdio) at an Upper East Side bar and by Episode 5, things had quickly turned from friendship into romance.
Of course, things are never easier for JC, and knowing Graham was married, she decided to follow her head and put things between them to an end.
However, she did not get very far and they ended up on a rogue trip to the Hamptons, driving Audrey up there to spy on her boyfriends, Aki and Max.

On the drive up, Audrey asked far too many questions about Graham's marriage and his adorable stories only solidified more for JC her need to end their romance.
Ready to break her own heart to save from breaking others, JC was ready to call everything off but Graham revealed he and his wife had officially separated.
For JC, this meant she had nothing to worry about and at the end of the episode, they were seen finally in bed together.
Graham does seem trustworthy, so let's hope he is not lying about the state of his marriage. Going forward, things sure are not going to be easy for them, with a divorce pending and Obie reaching back out to JC after shunning her for months.
2. Obie's All Alone
Obie is back at it again with his savior complex and quite rightly suspected his mother Helena Bergmann (Lyne Renée) of more dodgy financial activities.
He knew his mother was hiding something from him and after doing some investigative work of his own, he realized his family's company was potentially a part of a huge cover-up. Obie learned the buildings his family owned in Jakarta were sinking much faster than the ones in San Francisco and they were being threatened with lawsuits.
Fed up with the lies, Obie told his mother he no longer wanted anything to do with family affairs. However, he probably did not expect to be cut out from his family for good.
When he returned to his home in New York, he learned he no longer had access to the building and as a result, no longer had a place to call home.
Instead of heading to his best friend Aki's house, the first person Obie called was his ex-girlfriend JC, the one person he has given the cold shoulder to for months, leaving audiences wondering "Why JC?"
3. Zoya's Wild Weekend
After learning about JC's father, Davis (Luke Kirby), who faced allegations of sexual assault for paying for her father's apartment, Zoya (Whitney Peak) is still giving her dad the silent treatment.
She headed to Philadelphia for the weekend with her bestie Shan (Grace Duah) where she became close to Shan's friend's younger brother Drew (J.J. Wynder).
The morning after their big night, Drew seemed pretty distant from Zoya, which seemed majorly out of character considering how close they were the night before.
However, in the final moments of Episode 5, it was revealed Zoya and Drew had slept together, with Zoya searching online for the morning-after pill...

4. Gossip Girl 'Unmasked'
Mike Shubin's (Pico Alexander) loyalty has been questionable throughout Gossip Girl Season 2. His ultimate mission has always been to unmask Gossip Girl's true identity and until Episode 5, it seemed as if he was using Kate (Tavi Gevinson) as he knew she really was Gossip Girl.
However, in Episode 5, it became obvious Mike had never really suspected Kate and originally believed Gossip Girl to be a student but was only now thinking a teacher could be the source.
He shared with Kate he was being blackmailed and it would only stop if he was able to offer up Gossip Girl's identity.
Jordan (Adam Chanler-Berat) and Kate were able to trace the blackmailer's number to Munich, Germany, leading them to suspect Obie's mother Helena was the one blackmailing Mike. However, this has not been proven... yet.

Taking matters into his own hands, Jordan headed to Mike's parents' house to find out more information about Mike. But before Mike could arrive with Kate, she managed to text Jordan to tell him to leave, saving him from being suspected as Gossip Girl.
However, Jordan and Kate did not escape unscathed. The following morning, Mike burst into Kate's apartment, accusing her of being Gossip Girl as she had been the one to tell Jordan to leave Mike's home.
Defenseless, it really looked like Kate was going to tell the truth, but Jordan jumped in, stating he was Gossip Girl, whilst also confessing his true feelings for Kate.
The episode came to an end with Mike texting the Munich-based phone number Jordan's name and threatening "All I know is that I am free and you're going to wish you were after the person who just got that text, finds you."
So, what will Kate and Jordan do next?
Episodes of Gossip Girl Season 2 drop Thursdays on HBO Max.
