President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, will be at the White House on Saturday for his daughter's wedding as House Republicans have announced an investigation into his foreign business dealings.

Naomi Biden will marry her fiancé Peter Neal on the South Lawn of the White House just one day before the president celebrates his 80th birthday and two days after GOP leaders published an interim report containing serious allegations against her father.

Weddings are not unheard of at the White House and several presidents have seen family members married there, most often their children. The extended Biden family is reportedly expected to attend, as well as friends.

Hunter Biden's visit to the White House comes amid a renewed push to investigate him and any involvement his father may have had in business affairs. President Biden has always denied being involved with his son's businesses.

Committee on Oversight and Reform Republicans issued a 31-page interim report on Thursday accusing Biden of lying about his involvement with his son's business dealings and making clear their probe would focus on the president.

Republican Representative James Comer, who is expected to become chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee in the next Congress, said at a press conference on Thursday that the GOP had found "evidence that the finances, credit cards and bank accounts of Hunter and Joe Biden were commingled, if not shared."

Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings have long been the focus of criticism from Republicans and calls for investigations. Now that the GOP will have a majority in the House of Representatives and control of key committees, they will be able to probe allegations against the Bidens.

That probe is likely to involve compelling witness testimony and subpoenas for documents from the Biden administration. Comer criticized the Department of the Treasury on Thursday for not being cooperative with Republicans' investigations.

"We have repeatedly called on the Biden Treasury Department to release additional financial documents to committee Republicans, but thus far Treasury has refused," he said. "We want to know what the Biden administration is trying to hide from the American people and why they're not being transparent."

Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment.

Armed with subpoena power, a GOP-led Oversight Committee will be able to compel the Treasury to hand over documents.

Comer also linked Hunter Biden to human trafficking during his Thursday press conference, saying that a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) "shows that Biden was conducting business with suspected human traffickers."

A SAR is a type of document that banks have to file with the Treasury when a transaction is "suspected to be related to money laundering or fraud, or other types of criminal activity."

Ian Sams, a spokesman for the White House Counsel's office, said Republicans' top priority was "to go after President Biden with politically-motivated attacks chock full of long-debunked conspiracy theories."

Though the formal investigation cannot begin until Republicans take charge of House committees when the new Congress meets in January, scrutiny of the Bidens' finances is likely to be intense.

Saturday's wedding may be a welcome distraction between recent midterm elections and House investigations Biden will face next year.
