King Charles III's 75th birthday was marked on Tuesday with a special photo montage posted to the monarchy's official social media channels—but some members of the royal family were conspicuously absent.
Charles was born on November 14, 1948, as the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The royal became king in September 2022 and marked his 75th birthday with the launch of a new "Coronation Food Project" to tackle food need and waste in Britain.
When he became king, Charles' office also took over control of the official royal family social media accounts across platforms such as Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). In tribute to the monarch, posts from these accounts were made on Tuesday with the caption: "Wishing His Majesty The King a happy 75th birthday."
The posts included a 40 second video containing a montage of images from throughout Charles' life. These included photos with his parents, siblings and sons. However, it notably did not have any photos depicting his two daughters-in-law, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.

Kate became Charles' first daughter-in-law in 2011 when she married Prince William, and together the couple have three children: Prince George, born in 2013; Princess Charlotte, born in 2015; and Prince Louis, born in 2018.
Meghan became a member of the royal family when she married Charles' youngest son, Prince Harry, in 2018. Together the couple have two children: Prince Archie, born in 2019; and Princess Lilibet, born in 2021.
Charles' five grandchildren were not included in his 75th birthday image montage.
Newsweek reached out to Buckingham Palace via email for comment.
One inclusion in the king's birthday montage may surprise the general public, was a photograph taken of Charles, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew during his 1981 wedding ceremony to Princess Diana.
Charles and Diana's turbulent marriage ended in divorce in 1996 after a public popularity struggle nicknamed the "War of the Waleses" by the press.
Diana was shown in two photos with Princes William and Harry as babies.
Little is known about Charles' relationship with his daughters-in-law, though since becoming king, he has made warm public statements about them.
In his first address to the nation as sovereign in September 2022, Charles announced that he had made William and Kate the new Prince and Princess of Wales.
He also referenced Harry and Meghan, whose relationships within the royal family have been strained since splitting from the monarchy and moving to the U.S. in 2020, saying:"I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their life overseas."

The king described Kate as his "beloved daughter-in-law" during his state visit to Kenya in October, recounting in a speech how Prince William had proposed to the princess during a vacation in the country.
In addition to the royal family's official accounts, William and Kate posted a birthday tribute to Charles from their "Prince and Princess of Wales" channels. The post included photos of Charles with their family, captioned: "Wishing His Majesty The King a very happy 75th birthday!"
