It has been over 10 years since the terrors of the last Silent Hill game left fans of the franchise shaking in terror, but now, all of that is changing. After years of silence—and a failed attempt to reboot the franchise with P.T. back in 2014—Silent Hill is finally getting a terrifying new lease on life.

Konami released a special Silent Hill transmission on October 19, detailing several new projects that will help carry the series forward. The new projects include a remake of Silent Hill 2, which will be available on the PlayStation Store, as well as a new game called Silent Hill: Townfall, and an interactive series called Silent Hill: Ascension. The transmission also shared details about the upcoming movie Return to Silent Hill.

The Silent Hill franchise has long been a standing member of the horror gaming community, with iconic villains like Pyramid Head, the Grey Child, and The Closer. While these horrific enemies have lived on in the minds of the franchise's fans, though, they haven't seen much love in recent horror gaming iterations.

As noted above, Konami did attempt to reboot the franchise once back in 2014 with the release of a demo called P.T., unfortunately, the demo didn't stick around for long—and the Silent Hill game teased at the end of it never saw the light of day.

But, with the reveal of these new projects, the franchise seems to be getting a bit of a new way forward. And, with Silent Hill 2 being one of the most iconic games of the franchise—and home to Pyramid Head, the series' mascot—it's sure to delight fans of the original. And hopefully, the reboot continues to deliver on the teeth-chattering horror that helped it become one of the best horror games around.

Konami has been in a strange place since Hideo Kojima, one of the publisher's most acclaimed developers (and the creator of Silent Hill) left the company to form his own company—and subsequently release his own game. While there were originally a lot of rumors circulating around Kojima returning to help with the Silent Hill reboot, those rumors appear to have been just that.

What exactly the future holds for Silent Hill isn't completely clear, but with these new projects coming up, Silent Hill fans will at least have something to tide them over until Konami reveals even more details about the future of the franchise.
