Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert's ex-husband, Jayson Boebert has said he is hurt that she is seeking to make permanent a restraining order she took out following an altercation between the pair earlier this year.

"I am hurt by the restraining order," he told the Daily Mail. "It is very unfortunate and disheartening."

"She had called me multiple times and said if I agreed to her terms she would drop it."

He said that he refused to negotiate, but added that he still hopes they can "find a way to fix all this hate towards each other" and co-parent their children, according to the publication.

Newsweek has contacted Jayson Boebert for comment via Facebook. The congresswoman's office has been contacted via email.

At a hearing in Garfield County Associate Court on Monday, Judge Jonathan Pototsky said the court had been unable to serve Jayson Boebert with notice for the permanent restraining order that his ex-wife is seeking, according to the Mail.

The judge gave the congresswoman the choice of dismissing the order or returning to the court at another date.

She accepted the latter option. "As a mother this is a difficult decision, my sons miss their father ... and I wish [Jayson] was here today," she said, according to DailyMail.com. "But I'm afraid he might take his anger for me out on them."

Lauren Boebert was granted a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband in early February.

Under the terms of the temporary order, reviewed by Newsweek, Jayson Boebert is prohibited from making contact with the congresswoman or their children who remain underage or coming within 100 yards of them.

In Lauren Boebert's request for the order, she mentioned an argument they had at the Miner's Claim restaurant in Silt, Colorado, on January 6, where he claimed that she had hit him—which he later recanted. Jayson Boebert was uncooperative when police responded at the restaurant, leading to charges of disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal trespass and obstructing a peace officer.

Lauren Boebert's request also cited a physical fight between her ex-husband and their 18-year-old son that took place on January 9. She was not present for that fight, where Jayson Boebert allegedly grabbed a rifle after the teenager called authorities, according to court documents. He was later charged with harassment, prohibited use of a weapon and third-degree assault.

Last month, Jayson Boebert said he only learned of the temporary restraining order when he was contacted by a reporter with The Associated Press.

He told Westword, a Denver-based publication, that it was "cruel and unfair" and a "prison sentence to keep me from my family."

Boebert has previously said that the turmoil with her ex-husband is one of the reasons that she was switching to Colorado's 4th Congressional District from the more competitive 3rd District, avoiding a rematch against Democrat Adam Frisch who nearly beat her in 2022.

"This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I'm moving," she told Newsweek of the confrontation at the Miner's Claim restaurant.

She filed for divorce in May 2023 and it was finalized in October that year.
