Representative Lauren Boebert, the MAGA-aligned Colorado Republican, has obtained a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband that applies to herself and three of the couple's four children.

The development was confirmed Monday by the Colorado Sun, which reported that the congresswoman had previously requested the order and was granted it on Friday in Garfield County, Colorado. In filing her request, Boebert alleged numerous instances of behavior on the part of her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, between 2022 and Friday, including name-calling, harassing phone calls, and "abusing children in household." Newsweek was able to view a copy of the order granted on Friday and confirm several details of the Sun's report.

The incident comes amid a tumultuous time for the former couple, who first married in 2007 and stayed together until filing for divorce in May of last year. On January 6, to pair were involved in an altercation at a restaurant which saw the police called in on a report of domestic violence, with reports indicating that the congresswoman may have punched her former spouse, a claim she denied. The ex-husband was reportedly uncooperative with police and had to be forcibly removed from the establishment. He later said in an interview with the outlet, Westword, that he had asked to meet his ex-wife at the restaurant out of a desire to restart their relationship.

"This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I'm moving," the congresswoman said in a statement previously provided to Newsweek. "I didn't punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options."

Later, on January 9, Jayson Boebert was accused of getting into a physical altercation with his 18-year-old son that allegedly involved him attacking the teen and grabbing a rifle, prompting the son to call the police. He has since been charged with disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal trespass, and obstructing a peace officer in connection with the restaurant incident, as well as harassment, prohibited use of a weapon, and third-degree assault for the incident involving his son.

Newsweek reached out to Boebert's office via email on Monday for comment.

According to documents obtained by the Colorado Sun, the most recent incident cited by Boebert in her request for the restraining order was a "threat by damage to property" that purportedly took place on Friday. The congresswoman indicated that police were called in response to the matter.

Under the terms of the temporary order, Jayson Boebert is prohibited from making contact with his ex-wife or their three children who are still underage, nor may he come within 100 yards of the same. Per the copy of the order obtained by Newsweek, there are no exceptions to this mandate. A court date for the determination of a permanent restraining order has been set for Thursday morning in Garfield County.
