Jayson Boebert, ex-husband of Republican Representative Lauren Boebert, has spoken out regarding his recent altercation with the Colorado congresswoman at a restaurant, claiming that he had tried to get "her back."
On Sunday, numerous outlets reported that police in Silt, Colorado, had launched an investigation into the Saturday evening incident, in which Jayson Boebert told law enforcement that he had been a "victim of domestic violence." Reports indicated that the ex-husband alleged that he got punched in the face by Lauren Boebert.
Boebert later said the confrontation was a "sad situation" and that she was cooperating with police, while denying allegations of violence on her part.

"This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I'm moving," the congresswoman said in a statement previously provided to Newsweek. "I didn't punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options."
On Tuesday, Jayson Boebert spoke in an extensive interview with Westword, saying that he "wish this all hadn't happened," adding that he had wanted to tell her that he sought to get back together.
"I should have handled it more responsibly," Jayson Boebert told the outlet. "I mean, look how it escalated. It turned into this big deal, and honestly, it's just two people trying to figure out, you know, how to have peace with each other and how to move forward from here. It's just unfortunate, because now it's turned into this big story. And I know it's hurt her."
A report from the Daily Beast found that the former couple had gotten into a confrontation earlier in the day when the congresswoman went to her ex's home to pick up one of their sons. Jayson Boebert later asked that they meet at the Miner's Claim restaurant in Silt to discuss things, and it was there that the altercation took place. Speaking with Westword, he outlined more about what he had hoped for from the conversation.
"I was telling her I want her back," he added. "She started bringing up some of the things that she didn't like that I have done in our relationship."
Newsweek reached out to Boebert's office via email for comment on Tuesday.
