Ghost (played by Omari Hardwick) may be dead, but Power Book 2: Ghost is about to be born. Of the four Power spin-off (which also include Rashad Tate campaign drama Influence, prequel Raising Kanan and Force, which follows Tommy Egan in Los Angeles), Ghost is the one that will mostly deal with the ending of Power, which revealed exactly how Ghost ended up falling off the balcony at Truth nightclub with a bullet to the chest.
In the finale of the series, it was revealed that it was Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr) who fired the shot that killed his father. However, his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) covered up the crime and went to prison to protect her son.
Power Book II: Ghost picks up the action days after the end of Power. Tasha is still in prison, while Tariq is trying to get on with his college life after finally getting out of his father's shadow. In the finale, Tariq was at Ghost's will reading, where he discovered his father's final revenge: He could get his inheritance, but only if he completed college.
Tasha and Tariq, however, are not the only cast members set to return for more. The one-time suspect of the murder of Ghost, ex-cop Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) is also set to be back, as is Brayden Weston (Gianni Paolo), Tariq's school friend introduced in the last season of Power.
While some things stay the same, others have changed in Ghost. Saxe is now a U.S. Attorney, who is determined to prosecute Tasha for killing Ghost (never mind that he too considered murdering the drug dealer himself). In order to try and stop his mother going to jail (for a crime he committed no less), Tariq starts looking for money to pay MacLean, described in the official Starz synopsis as "the fame-hungry defense lawyer who is Tasha's only hope of getting out of jail."
Of course, his search for a way to pay MacLean puts him back in the drug game. This time, however, it is not his father trying to stop him but Monet, the head of what Starz calls "a cutthroat family." And she is likely to be far more vicious in her punishment of Tariq if he steps on her patch than his father was.
