  • Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden celebrated near sweeps on Super Tuesday, as they rack up delegates and head closer towards a 2020 rematch.

Live updates have ended.

Haley expected to drop out of race

Good morning. Nikki Haley is set to deliver remarks from South Carolina in about 30 minutes. The former U.N. ambassador is expected to drop out of the 2024 GOP presidential race after a disappointing Super Tuesday. Her expected announcement will officially tee up President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump for a 2020 rematch in November.

Haley has run an impressive campaign– making history as the first Republican woman to win two presidential primary contests. The former SC governor beat Trump in GOP contests Tuesday in Vermont and Sunday in Washington, D.C.

Results: Two final results overnight– Donald Trump won the GOP contests in Alaska and Utah, where 29 and 40 delegates were at stake, respectively.

Haley 'honored' by support as she makes history

Nikki Haley did not hold any public events tonight, nor deliver any remarks, but a campaign spokesperson said the GOP candidate was honored to be the first Republican woman to win two presidential primary contests.

"Today, in state after state, there remains a large block of Republican primary voters who are expressing deep concerns about Donald Trump," spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said in a statement, according to the Associated Press. "That is not the unity our party needs for success."

Haley won the GOP primary in Vermont tonight as well as the Washington, D.C. primary on Sunday.

CA Senate race: Adam Schiff, Steve Garvey advance to general election

Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff and Republican Steve Garvey will advance to the general election for U.S. Senate in California.

The highly contested– and very expensive– race in California is for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein's seat.

California puts all candidates on the primary ballot, regardless of party, and the top two vote-getters advance to the general election. So Garvey, a former baseball star, will face off against Schiff in November. Several prominent House Democrats were also in the race, including Barbara Lee and Katie Porter.

Kevin McCarthy hopes Haley joins future administration

Kevin McCarthy hopes Nikki Haley will play a prominent role in the future of the Republican Party, even if she loses the 2024 presidential nomination to former President Donald Trump.

The former House Speaker praised the former South Carolina governor's "tremendous campaign" during an interview with Fox News tonight.

"Nikki Haley has a bright future because either one of the two men who are up for the nomination this time to win can only serve one term," McCarthy said, referring to Trump and President Joe Biden.

"So I think she has a very bright future and I would hope she'd be part of the future administration," he added.

What Biden-Trump polls look like eight months before election

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are still neck and neck in the polls ahead of November's election, but voters appear more concerned about the issues surrounding the president than his expected Republican challenger.

With eight months to go before what looks set to be a rematch of the 2020's race, Biden narrowly beats Trump in two of the last six serious surveys, Trump leads in three and one is tied, according to FiveThirtyEight's collection of national polls.

When broken down further, the polls suggest that potential voters are more concerned with the age of the 81-year-old president, than they are with the 77-year-old Republican.

Surveys also suggest Americans believe that Trump will be better at handling the economy than Biden and Trump's legal issues have apparently still not damaged his White House hopes.

GOP strategist: The two states Trump should watch tonight

North Carolina and Virginia are the two states that former President Donald Trump should watch on Super Tuesday, a Republican strategist says.

Doug Heye, a GOP strategist and former communications director for the Republican National Committee (RNC), said both Trump and President Joe Biden are "vulnerable" in the 2024 election.

"That's why this electorate is so nervous moving forward," Heye told CNN. "Of all the states that are in there, North Carolina and Virginia are sort of the only two that are swing states. Watching those results, North Carolina is gonna come in pretty late by the way."

National polls: Trump vs. Haley

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley won her first Republican primary in Washington, D.C. Sunday– becoming the first woman to win a GOP primary in U.S. history.

So what does support for the former U.N. ambassador look like against former President Donald Trump?

As of today, FiveThirtyEight's national polling average tracker shows Trump with 77.5% support, over Haley's 15.7%.

In a Fox News interview this morning, Haley argued that she's the candidate who can beat President Joe Biden in November.

"This is about winning elections so that we can get our country back on track: paying down our debt, securing our border, preventing war, and getting our kids reading again," Haley wrote on X Tuesday morning.

"We can't do that if we don't win. And we can't win with Donald Trump at the top of the ticket."

Trump is losing white evangelicals to Biden

Former President Donald Trump appears to be losing support among white evangelicals to President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential race.

Fox News asked white evangelical voters who they would vote for, if the election were held today. Here's how polling has changed over the last few months:

  • March 2024: 28% of white evangelical voters would vote for Biden, compared to 68% for Trump
  • October 2023: 23% for Biden, 73% for Trump
  • August 2023: 17% for Biden, 66% for Trump

While Trump still clearly leads among this group of voters, support is growing for Biden, according to Fox's polling.

Why does it matter? White evangelicals' support in the 2016 and 2020 elections was crucial for Trump. He secured a formidable alliance with White evangelical Christians, who gravitated toward him for his stance on abortion and religious freedom. Trump pledged to champion evangelical causes, appoint conservative judges, and protect religious liberties.
