A$AP Rocky Found Not Guilty in Gun Assault Trial

On Tuesday, A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in his California gun assault trial, and his reaction was wild. The rapper and partner of Rihanna–the pair have two children together–stood as the judge read the jury's verdict. When he heard "not guilty," A$AP Rocky leaped to hug Rihanna, exuberant over the news.

"Thank y'all for saving my life," A$AP Rocky told jurors as they exited the courtroom.

A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was on trial for allegedly shooting at former friend and collaborator A$AP Relli (Terell Ephron) in 2021. The verdict now frees A$AP Rocky from any legal charges. His fourth studio album, Don't Be Dumb, is also slated to come out later this year.

Here's a few other things you need to know about today...

  • SNL50: The Anniversary Special was a massive success, with nearly 15 million people watching the prime-time special. People are still talking about the performances, the sketches, and Cher's hair. (You know what? If I was blocked by Cher's hair, I'd be content, because Cher!)

  • I love that Tom Holland can't buy his own non-alcoholic beer. I, unfortunately, look my age and had no problem buying it, and I can say confidently, BERO is delicious.

  • Guy Pearce and Kevin Spacey are in the middle of a very public dispute. Pearce accused Spacey of being inappropriate on the set of L.A. Confidential, while Spacey has taken to social media to deny the claims. It's messy. (That said, L.A. Confidential is a great movie and you should very much watch it.)

That's it for me today. I'll be back Friday with more. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news!

Stephen Amell on Why 'Suits' Spinoff is a 'Really Big Deal'

By H. Alan Scott

While it seemed like everyone on social media was binge-watching Suits during the pandemic, there was one person who was intentionally not watching the long-running series that ended in 2019: Stephen Amell. "I didn't know much about the resurgence of the show on Netflix. And I had mostly kept it that way." That freed up Amell creatively to take on the role of Ted Black in Suits LA, a spinoff of the original. "I just felt like I had a good feel for it, but I also felt like it was a high-profile job and I was lucky to be in the room."

The new series focuses on entertainment lawyers in Los Angeles. "There's a long, rich history of legal dramas being successful on television. And for good reason, because it's compelling. And entertainment law is compelling." And part of what makes the franchise so successful—besides creator Aaron Korsh, who Amell calls "the through line between Suits and Suits LA"—is that love-hate relationship with lawyers. "I love a lawyer. My lawyer. But I don't like any other lawyers. So what that also creates is a very rich canvas for drama."
