When I first heard Jeff Bezos wanted to send Gayle King to space on one of his Blue Origin rockets, I was like, "No, you're not going to hurt my Gayle." Well, the day came, and Gayle King has gone to space. But after seeing the launch and all the post-flight interviews and press conferences, I can't help but wonder, was it worth it?
A couple weeks ago, during an appearance on Jenna and Friends, Olivia Munn said something about the space trip that has stuck with me, "What's the point?"
"Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it's gluttonous... I know this is probably obnoxious, but it's so much money to go to space and there's a lot of people who can't even afford eggs," Munn said.
And then this morning I see them in space suits straight off a New York runway, with photos of them that look more like a modeling photoshoot, and it all just feels so... forced. Like, did Katy Perry deserve to make that history? Should it maybe have been somebody who has studied space? I don't know, I'm just thinking of all those women who worked in the field of space research who will likely never get a chance to visit space in their lifetime. With Bezos' billions, instead of sending his girlfriend, Lauren Sánchez, maybe send someone who has dedicated their life to understanding what goes on beyond our planet?
With all that said, I'm glad Gayle King is ok. I think we can all agree on that.
That's it for me today. I'll see you on Wednesday. Keep scrolling for more entertainment news.
